Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I received an email from Jeff at Sonoma County Hot Rods, who asked if I wanted to come see Lemon Drop on Monday, because he just got it back from the paint shop. The paint was touched up and then polished. Of course it had to be the week I have to attend training for work, so I wont have a chance to get up there and see it until maybe next friday. I'm hoping by then it will be ready to come home, because I will have 5 day off and want to get started on the door panels.
Sorry I dont have any pictures, but rest asure that as soon as I do I will post them.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I stopped by the shop today to drop off a payment and check on the status of Lemon Drop. Jeff said it should be ready to take home in about two weeks, just a few things to button up.
There was a problem with the computer for the Accuair system. I bought the unit about 8 months ago. They learned that the computer was an early model. The folks at Accuair were contacted and they replaced the unit. Great customer service from Accuair. They ended up with the exhaust dumping right at the rear axle. The truck sits to low to run the exhaust over the rear axle and would burn the wood bed, once it is in. I really noticed the hum of the noisy gear drive (what an beautiful sound) The Glass Installer had no problems getting the front and rear glass in and it looks great. The painter did a great job of touching up the OOPS Chips and Scratches and polished the paint. The best part of the visit was that after I started the truck, I got it out for the MAIDEN VOYAGE just around the streets by the shop. Man was that a fun ride. I wanted so much to slam the throttle to the floor and experience the power that is just yearning to be let loose, but with just 7.2 miles on the odometer, I decided to wait until after the break in period. I took some measurement of the inner door and will start on the door panels. When I got home I found a couple of boxes from BROTHERS with my dash pad and other interior parts, waiting on the door step. I know you and I like pictures, so I snapped a few shots, as well as some video bites. So here you go.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
Can you even begin to say what it was like to drive it for the first time after so long?
You must feel like a 15 yo kid who already has his dream car in the driveway but is waiting to get his drivers license on his birthday the next week. Congrats

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I spent some time working on my door panels today. I made some small boxes that will become part of the speaker pod and hold the x-over. I plan on making a removable insert to conceal the x-over, but have them accessible without having to remove the door panel. I don't care for the look of having the x-over visible.
I cut some templates for the arm rests (a top piece and a back piece.) I will use the template to cut pieces out of plywood. I plan on putting a piece of floral foam between the plywood and then carve the foam to form to the plywood. Then cover with fiberglass. I penciled in the dimensions of the door panel area onto a piece of 1/4 inch MDF, but will wait until I get the truck back from the shop before cutting the MDF panels. I plan on using door panel clips to hold the panel onto the door. Once I have the truck back, I will fit the panel and then drill holes through both the MDF and the door to mark the place for the clip. I may make the speaker pod and map pocket a separate piece from the door panel. This way I can first attach the speaker pod/map pocket with nuts and bolts. Then put the upper door panel on with door clips.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
That must have been a blast! Sounds great and if you want you might be able to go under the rear like I did on low buck. You would want the exhaust pipe to just tough the rear end at full raise and it should still be off the ground at full dump. Can't wait to see that paint in the sun now that it is polished!!!

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I just got Lemon Drop back today. It was low on gas so I took my daughter, Lauren out for a drive. She loved it. It got a little hot in the cab. I'm hoping that will change once I get the carpet installed and door panels done. I have not charged the air conditioning system yet. Still alot to do. I have many pieces in the garage that I will put on in the next couple of weeks. Once I save up some cash, I will get the wood bed, tyres and interior completed. I don't see why I wouldn't have it done in time for next summers car shows. I know when you look at these pictures it looks like nothing has changed, but most of it is things you can't see.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
We were concerned about the heat from the exhaust next to the Accuair Computer. So the exhaust was wrapped.
Anyone have any other ideas that would help keep the computer cool. I was thinking of something on the frame to cover the computer as well as cool it.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
I like the louver idea, I wonder if a piece of aluminum with louvers would be better?

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
Make a heat shield out of alumn and cover it with some type of heat wrap. We made heat shields for a truck and the heat from the exhaust was cut down from 300 degrees down to 100. That was at the collector on the header.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!
fastbagged idea is perfect. i think the louvers would allow hot air to go into the box then your just not allowing the hot air to escape.
