Re: Lost My 65
In this case, I'm just going to take it to a good driveshaft / axel shop and have them balance the whole Drivetrain.
It's something once done, I'll never have to do again. . I'm really happy with my accomplishments with this project. When I was a kid, I had the knowledge and experience of my Grandpa, My Dad, My Uncle, and my Brother in Law. With that and these forums, I'm very pleased with what I've been able to accomplish so far. . Beings I have everything all put back together, I'm going to move onto my Fitech EFI install.

Re: Lost My 65
Started the FiTech install.
Bolting up and linkage are as simple as a carb swap. I already had a spread bore manifold to square bore adapter plate, so I used that. Some needed a riser at the air cleaner for some reason. I didn't. Also mocking up the Fuel Command Center. Decided to mount it to the firewall.

Re: Lost My 65
Outside I want to keep my truck worry free of scratches and dings. Inexpensive paint - metal protected.
My main goal is a mechanically dependable and safe truck that can be used as a truck.

Got most everything for the FiTech hooked up but the O2 Sensor and Russell Line and Fittings.
Hopefully fire it up Monday afternoon.

Re: Lost My 65
Had a little time today, so I hooked up the bung and O2 Sensor. I went ahead and used their clamp on method. I cleaned the surface really good. We'll see how it works.
I saved the fuel line from the FCC to the TBI for last.

Re: Lost My 65
I didn't expect it to fire up on first try.
But bam! Barely cranked over and it fired up beautifully. No hesitation. No hiccup. Ran it for a solid 20 mins. Revved it up, let it drop back down three or four times. Shut it down. Started it back up a couple times. Not a glitch. I won't be able to take it for a spin around the block for a couple days. Need to replace the idler arm.

Getting it all buttoned up and crossing items off the punch list.
Very cool.

Re: Lost My 65
I'm not sure if this is an aftermarket idler arm.
The rubber looks too fresh to be the original idler arm. Either way it's sure has some slop in it - I can wobble both pivot points by hand. Beings I'm upgrading to Power Steering with a 73-87 Power Steering Box, I figured I'd use the 73-87 idler arm. . My wobbly 60-62 idler arm. . The 73-87 idler arm I'm going to replace it with. This idler arm was left over from my 66 Service Truck Power Steering conversion.

Re: Lost My 65
Did a little buttoning down of some wires and hoses.
Also got the 73+ idler arm mounted. Steering linkage slop is gone.

Re: Lost My 65
Back to the Fitech system. Where did you run the vent line ? How is the system running? Are you happy with it?

Re: Lost My 65
It fires up so nice.
I haven't had a chance to drive it. Working on steering linkage. Hope to drive it around some Friday. Bought my aftermarket vent line can at homedepot several years ago. I have a rear tank I plan on installing in the coming weeks.

Great throttle response. No hesitation, or bogg. . Going to see about getting the slight vibration in the driveshaft taken care of this week.

Re: Lost My 65
Trying to tighten up my steering, I decided to go with a Redhead Steering Gears PS box. After I pulled the old PS box, I noticed some slight play in the Pitman Arm.
Got the Redhead box mounted. Will pick up a new Pitman Arm tomorrow.

Re: Lost My 65
Steering is a lot tighter, and the power steering makes all the difference turning the wide tires, but there's still a slight pull in whatever direction I'm going. So if I'm going around a corner, right or left, the front has a slight pull in that direction. I ran a line straight off the back wheels, running parallel off the back wheels, the front wheels have a slight toe in, so I'm not sure what the issue is. I'll do more reading and searching to see if I can find the cause.
. Before I take my truck in to figure out the slight vibration in the driveline, I'm going to pull it back out, and check each u-joint - just in case that's the issue. .

RE: vibration. Have you checked the angle of your trans output shaft and compared it to your pinion angle to see if they are parallel?

Re: Lost My 65
I guess I made the mistake thinking the existing saddles on the 12-Bolt I got out of a 65 with an automatic was where I needed to line up the new ones. Just further apart for the 60-62 trailing arm spacing.
But no, the pinion is not parallel with the automatic yoke. Do you know if I can use some kind of wedge at the saddle? I think I only need to tilt it down about 1/2". I may just test it temporarily with some washers to see if that takes out the vibration.

Re: Lost My 65
The '65 12 bolt should have been at the correct angle originally. It could be that the back of the trans is too high.
