I think I can handle doing the twins on my truck, but for now I'm just going to go single as I don't want to blow this motor up right after I get it running. I'm sure we can figure something out tho!

I don't have any of my "things that go boom" anymore. Had a bad boating accident happen a while back and none of them survived.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well Ive gotten some stuff done on the truck. Was looking at the out boarded rear shocks and just was not finding a good way to make the upper mount that didnt look like some big bracket welded to the frame. So I went back to the original way that I had the shocks.

I then decided it was finally time to seal up the rear of the frame. I did not run the rear cross member all the way inside of the frame because I had nuts welded inside the frame for the bumper and the receiver hitch and so I used the end plates as ways to tie the frame to the cross member more.

Got my safety chain hook ups all welded up shock mounts welded, and also gusseted my gas tank strap mounts.

Brought the D60 back into the shop so I can tear it down. Going to try to get the axles and frame all painted at one time so I can have it as a roller ASAP.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You, my friend, are so full of

Nice work on your shocks. I always hate when you're trying to mount something that never was there, but can't seem to find a nice or cool way to make it appear.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

It's the tractor paint that you can buy from tractor supply. It's cheap but I put it on my k10 3 years ago and it's done fine. This was a different brand then the stuff I have on my k10 tho so hopefully it is just as good.

Thanks Ryan! Either you or I jinxed it and i did scratch it putting the rear axle in... When I was putting it in I was lining it up the housing rotated on me and the spring scratched the frame... But I think once I get everything bolted together I may do another coat over the whole thing.

Once I got the rear axle in I moved it back into the shop.

Decided mount the rear shocks as well.

I then put all new seals into the front axle housing and got the gears all set back in the housing. Started cleaning the knuckles out as well so that I can get some paint on them. Just need to get the kingpin rebuild kits and I should be able to have it back as a roller.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well I went up to Dieselwrenchers for a week and spent time helping him get his long horn running for Goodguys and I brought home some more parts.

2nd Gen intercooler and a shifter for the transmission and a couple other things.

Got to looking at how to install the intercooler in the core support and putting it in the front was looking like it was going to take a lot of work. It is very close to the lights and the grill does not have a lot of room between it and the core support.

So I decided to flip it over and see if it would fit any better. Looks like I will just have to cut the main supports out of the core support and it should fit in very nicely. I will have to build some new supports but that should be easy. I am looking around for a radiator for the truck now so I can make sure that after I cut it it will all fit like factory.

I also got in a intake flange from Ryanroo so I can make a custom intake for the truck. Thanks Ryan!

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well I ended up buying the radiator back that came out of this truck when it had a 454.

I set the radiator in the stock place and it looked like there was a ton of clearance for the intercooler so i started cutting on the core support.

Intercooler will fit down in there nicely after i drill two holes for the bottom mounts. Then I will have to build some upper mounts and put in some new vertical supports.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Well tonight I got some time in the shop and have the intercooler finally setting in the core support just how I want it. I still need to make the top mounts which should be pretty easy. One thing I was trying to do while I was mounting this intercooler was to not modify anything on the intercooler so that if something happened to this one I would be able to buy a replacement and it would fit right in.

The only thing I had to do was move the upper mount rubber isolators in farther so that they would clear the back of the headlights and allow for a bolt to be able to pass through them.

Don't forget to leave some clearance for the bolt heads that hold the rad support to the frame, I trimmed the rubber isolators down just enough to get a wrench on the bolt head.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

I have enough clearance on mine so I won't have to trim it down at all. How did you go about making the top mounts? I think I'm just going to make a u shaped bracket that gets bolted to the core support and the the intercooler bolts to that.

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

You have that IC sitting in there nice. Almost as if it was made to go there. As far as clearance goes for the rad support to the frame, what about welding a nut plate on the support and running a bolt up from the bottom. Almost the same idea as the original cab mounts? I was thinking this would work as long as the bolt size was cut down only to protrude 1~2 threads max. Might be easier than getting a wrench in there?

Re: 85 GMC Sierra Classic 1 Ton Crew Cab

Oh, and the upper mounts you could try some angle iron then drill/tap out to bolt it to the IC. Then when you have it lined up weld the angle to the rad support, using the IC to hold it in the right spot. Not sure if this is th best way, but that was how I was planning on doing it.
Looks great keep up the good work.
