Re: 198Plus build

Body lines off......

Looks like they took 30 grit to the door panels, for what reason......

Cover up the welds.......Wanted them bare.......for inspection......Are they hiding something......

Maybe Alan would share some thoughts on this.

Looks like it was his first door skins he put on. There should be no reason to run a grinder around the edges. Just like I told you on the phone, when I do a door skin I can usually run an 8" mudhog with 180 grit and get rid of the defects. I have an occasional oops, but for the most part 180 will get it, if not I step up to 80 grit on an 8" then go back to the 180. Never 36 that just creates more problems. My gut is telling me they are covering something up, but that is just my opinion.

Re: 198Plus build

The gaps Gage are jacked up. Man I'm sorry your going through so much trouble. Sometimes you either gotta pay to play or do it yourself. I know you've been paying a lot, but someone wouldn't get payed for a jacked up door gap.

If he is a decent guy, he will fix the work. If he won't fix it, then post his name and phone number. This way none of us will accidentally call him in the middle of the night to see if he is available for some work

Alan mentioned that and now that I think about it, I'm sure it is.

Re: 198Plus build

I'm having it done by some friends here in Ga. Sorry, but with friends like that....That just makes my want to do mine even more. It really does suck though. If your paying to get it done you would think they would do it right. On the other side you get want you pay for. Lowest bid almost always sucks. I'd take it back show him want you think is wrong with it and have him fix it.

Man, $800 would have went a long way towards me getting the repop doors to fit. Not counting the skins and inners you bought. I'm sorry Ronnie just couldn't resist.

What would he be hiding? Think he never welded it, just left the spot welds and covered it up. He would'nt do something like that. I'm sure it's welded. No balls to scrape the kitty hair off and see for yourself.

Re: 198Plus build

i like your build, but that is the awfullest mess i have ever seen on the doors.paying good hard earned money like that for trashy work.i bet you could have put them on in your sleep and they would have looked better than that.i hate to see anyone get taken advantage of.it has been my experience that if you need something done,do it yourself, learn to do it yourself,or leave it alone.

Re: 198Plus build

Ronnie, that is pathetic. The shop should not be allowed to perform this type of work. That is the quality of work that makes most of us feel pretty good about the quality we produce.

If Alan can't fit you in, we welcome the opportunity. As you know, we only do '60-'66 Chevy/GMC trucks, so we are not strangers to what it takes to do them right.

Good luck and let me know if I can help.

P.S. - The high hump tranny cover was shipped to them on Wednesday or Thursday, so I guess that gesture didn't help much in negotiating a better deal with them!

I'm probably going to take them to small claims court, I have nothing to lose.

Good…Fast…Cheap

Your choice, pick any two!

I'm confused? Which two were the shop that #ucked up his doors? There's got to be more choices.

Re: 198Plus build

I say you use Alan's macro photography and the right up his does while fixing the doors in the court case. At the minimum I would file for whatever it costs you to have Alan do them correctly. If they are a BBB member then also file with them. Get their name out to as many people as you can. If they stop getting business they will have to change their ways or move on.
