Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Pickin' the Honey Hole with LT1burb scored us each a sore back and also an original fan shroud that had seen better days. It had several cracks and a couple pieces missing from it, but was much less that the $140 repop version. I'm cleaning the areas with a 3M wheel and grinding all of the cracks to shape them like a V also drilling the ends of each crack to stop them from continuing on from the end of the repair. I am then using a Fusor 2 part panel bonding epoxy and some fiber mat to strengthen the areas. You could use fiberglass, resin etc , but I wanted a quick dry time as I am doing this on a lunch hour

.
.
let it kick off, grind, shape, smooth, clean, sand and then shoot it semi gloss and install it tomorrow.

That would be killer. The pizza joint we will be at tomorrow has a cheeseburger pizza. Maybe I sneak some In & Out special sauce ( I keep plenty of packets on hand at all times) in and have them whip up a double double cheeseburger pizza!

Now that I am drooooooling on my keyboard I may as well update this project.
Body work done, primed and painted satin black. Look ma' no holes and broken corners! You can still see some of the original texture through the satin paint.
Also bead blasted an OE radiator to tstat neck pipe

Would love to have you and the wife at the club meeting, fresh faces always welcome. Its more of a gathering of like minded friends, wives and kids sharing a meal and chatting about car stuff than a "car club meeting" no dues, no rules, all of us have been there done that.

Coburg pizza co has 2 locations. 1st one is in Coburg just north on I5 about 5 miles. 2nd is on Centenial and 20th ish the old Abbys pizza bldg near the old DMV.....yuuuum

Yes on Roadster show. What day you going? Maybe get together for breakfast somewhere?

Okay here we go without the actual shroud in the pics and a video at the bottom. Repairing the shroud this way really worked well, it's a very strong repair and flexible not brittle like a fiberglass repair would be. Easy to sand and paint and mostly quick!
First the parts list:

Fusor bumper repair epoxy #142. Fast, easy to sand, flexible ( fan shroud is semi flexible) and we have a ton of it.
.
.

.
.
.

Fusor plastic #700. its a roll of what looks like drywall tape and is very sandable without balling up when you dig into it.
.
.
.
.

.
.
.

Nice job on the shroud. Got a crack in mine that'll eventually need some attention as well.

Thanks 1963c-10 and 64chevtruck, you welcome anytime. Are you headed to the PDX Roadster show this weekend? I'm driving one of the trucks, Orange if it's just a couple of us and the Burb if there is more than 3 riding up.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Sneak peek. I am having the OE upper coolant pipes duplicated and after checking the fit will have them available for those interested. Check the classifieds soon. I'm also bored between clear coats and waiting for the flash time. The only thing better than watching paint dry, is watching the flattening agent you put in the clear go from wet to dull under the tape is the polished lip. Buying aluminum wheels from a guy who used them on his 4x4 71 Blazer was probably not the thing to do if I had planned on polishing the lips. 45 minutes a wheel with 80 grit and a file then 5 to 10 min with 120, 220, 300, 400, 600 and so on. I thought I was getting a deal. The old adage " you pay for what you get" is ringing in my head all week!
.
.

.
They will be much flatter when the clear dries and look like base coat.
.
.
.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Thanks jason65!

I was pulling tape with wet paint, couldn't stand the suspense! They are duller without the flash and should look better in the a.m. Not bad for an amature, an old school set of 5 slots and a few hours of elbow grease and some cool parts. The cone under the knock off and the wheel face are the same metallic gun metal gray, but with the flash and all the metallic it makes them look different colors at different angles. In person they look BAD A$$$$
