Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.
Is Gumby still 6 lug? I may have to hang onto a couple sets of wheels and tires lol

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.
Spent some time on my new wheel project today. Still need to find some old school raised white letter tires 245/65/15 255/7015 ish. I'm using the ever-so-popular 5 slot aluminum Ansen style mag, but don't like to look at the lugs and didn't want a push through bullet cap with these. I ordered up some knock off towers that would clear the disc brake rotors and push though the center of the wheel from the backside. They don't make a 6 lug 5.5 pattern, so I bought some pizza and beer for the local machinist buddy and had him whip up some sheet metal rings to weld to the towers. Grabbed some old NOS covers and some new tri bar knock offs and whalla! Something different. I am thinking of polishing the outer lip, the drop flange and then bead blasting the dish area and the covers painting both a cast gray ( salt flat style) leaving just the drop flange, outer lip and the knock off shiney....what do you think?

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.
I like your thinking with the new wheel idea. Interested to see how it turns out.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.
Looks Great ! Ya, I like the idea of the polished rim with the painted slot area.
I've said it before , a few sets of wheels and tires for the same vehicle are a easy way to get a different look or performance . Glad the wife actually gets to drive it . Oh and BTW ....

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.
Wow Glenn! Hittin a guy in Oregon below the belt with shots of Double Doubles! Soon, very soon.
Thanks Gimmy, likearoc, hotrodred and Skywalker! I found some tires, now just need to keep sanding and polishing! The 63 grille I picked up is getting back burnered for a bit. Found a shroud that needs a corner re glassed in place then installed.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.
Pickin' the Honey Hole with LT1burb scored us each a sore back and also an original fan shroud that had seen better days. It had several cracks and a couple pieces missing from it, but was much less that the $140 repop version. I'm cleaning the areas with a 3M wheel and grinding all of the cracks to shape them like a V also drilling the ends of each crack to stop them from continuing on from the end of the repair. I am then using a Fusor 2 part panel bonding epoxy and some fiber mat to strengthen the areas. You could use fiberglass, resin etc , but I wanted a quick dry time as I am doing this on a lunch hour
. . let it kick off, grind, shape, smooth, clean, sand and then shoot it semi gloss and install it tomorrow.

Now that I am drooooooling on my keyboard I may as well update this project. Body work done, primed and painted satin black. Look ma' no holes and broken corners! You can still see some of the original texture through the satin paint. Also bead blasted an OE radiator to tstat neck pipe . .
