Karl & Korbin, I have to say that this has been my favorite thread on this site! I love coming back to it after a few months and seeing the progress! We need to get together and cruise Gilmer road some weekend!

Thanks for checking in. Its been awhile, have you gotten anything done on yours? You had talked about doing something to the front suspension...

No updates here on this one. It had an unfortunate end at the first of the year.

Parts of Sunburn will be living on in White Trash.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

Let me start off by saying that GOD is good. He was with Korbin and his little sister that day.

On the way home from getting his sister from school he was involved in a wreck that totaled out the truck. Neither of them where hurt not even a scratch.

The truck did not fare so well:

It could have been worse. Korbin was able to miss getting hit head on, but got hit just at the back of the passenger door and took out the rear end and bent the frame....

Settled with the insurance and was able to keep the truck, but it was really damaged. I pulled all the good parts off and will be using some of them on White Trash and the others on the rebuild of my '65 when I get to that point. Got lucky on the wheels and tires, the good Eagle 225's for the rear where off at the time of the wreck because one tire had a bubble in the sidewall and was waiting on a replacement to come in. The wheels on the rear were from an extra set I had so he could still drive it.

I'm just now finding out about this! So sorry that all the hard work went down the drain so easy. Atleast the kids are okay, and yes you got really lucky on the wheels!

At least the kids were OK. Trucks grow on trees.

That said, I'm sorry, what a shame. At least the good parts can live on.

Sorry it ended as it did but I agree 100% the kids coming home safe is what's important. I know we talked about it & Korbin learned sooo much that the next opportunity will be even better.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

It's a shame that this trucks life is over, really enjoyed watching the build.

If you don't mind sharing, what was the story behind the accident?

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

It's good to know that your kids were not hurt, thats whats important, these trucks are fun to build, play with and drive but as a parent myself I hope everyone walked away from this is ok in the long term.
BTW thanks for telling the story of your kids being safe, as you showed the pictures.
Best wishes.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

No one was hurt in the other car, it was in a curve and they where in his lane. He had to run off the road to avoid the other car. Slick grass and no room to work with ended up hitting the telephone poll that was only 15 feet off the road. He was able to keep the truck from hitting the pole head on.

It is a dangerous curve in that road, the pole has been hit multiple times before. Even the tow truck had to avoid a car and he almost ended up in the ditch too. He was going slow and turning around to pick up the truck, so he was able to keep his under control.

Did insurance work in your favour?

Pops worked road maintenance for many years - he always instructed his crew "always get a piece of the car" - it makes insurance claims much easier.

I would not say it worked in my favor, but I did get a fair settlement and got to keep the truck.

Parts will be living on in White Trash and my '65 when I get back to that one...

When you insure a truck like that did you request a higher amount?
What's Korbin gonna drive now?

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

I was in the process of changing the insurance when it happened, but it was not in effect yet.

I had purchased a 2006 Silverado Crew Cab 2500HD 4WD with the Duramax for me to drive when we finished this truck. Korbin has it now and he is happy and focused more on getting finished with his senior year and going to college next fall. He will get to take White Trash out for a spin every now and then once its finished.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

I was so mad at myself for weeks even months after that wreck. I can't even go down that same road without thinking about it. I'm extremely lucky and blessed as well as my sister. I'm even more blessed that my parents literally GAVE me another truck to drive...I can't thank them enough. I want another c10 more than anything. But i'm supposed to focus on something called grades and college or something along those lines.

Maybe i can save up enough extra cash flipping truck parts and working that i can build a cheap truck to play with. just something to hold me over until i can start another full build. This newer truck is nice but it's not as fulfilling or rewarding as driving something i built. My mother calls that being ungrateful. I really want to do a bagged squarebody dually, maybe cummins powered. who knows, but that wreck definitely did't discourage me, just taught me about never taking anything for granted.
