Have you mounted the tub yet?
What did you use for mounts? Polly or stock rubber ones? |

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Nope, not yet. I wanna paint the firewall and shoot the rubber liner on the bottom side first. I got a set of poly a long time ago. I reckon I'm going to run those for awhile. If it ends up transfering too much vibration into everything I'll probably end up putting in rubber mounts. If things weren't so tight I'd probably do the rubber ones to begin with. I really like the idea of the longevity of the poly but they are very hard.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Stopped by the palace tonight and worked on the rockers. There was about an 1/8th inch gap between the rocker and bedside. I went ahead and filled the gap by cutting some plate and welding it to the rocker. It just needs a thin coat of icing to get it level.

Just can't build one without icing. Looks good to me. Keep up the good work.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
When I first started building this thing I though to myself, "I'm not going to use any filler". YEAH RIGHT I suppose if I had 30 years of experience in workin' metal then maybe. But now I don't know how I I'd of gotten along without it. Filler Rocks (as long as its not globbed on and 2" thick, lol)

Looking great! Even guys with over 30 years experience still use a skim coat to make it straight. Don't let anyone try to fool ya Looking forward to the rest of the build.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
OK, its been awhile so its time to get back at it. Lots of stuff been going on so the Blazer was put on the back burner. I really regret it too, I'd be enjoying it right now, lol. I'm off most of the week so I'm going to try and knock a bunch of stuff out on this week. We'll see, lol. Wish me luck!

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Good luck on getting it finished. You were missed at the meet this weekend. Not but 1 Blazer on the place but...........man what a Blazer it was. Bryan drove his roadster down and it was great to see it in my front yard. Maybe you can make next year.

Been a slow week so far, just got in the garage today for a few hours. I did find a spot on the firewall I missed so out came the por15. I'll have that fixed up tomorrow. I'm tossin' on the old chrome valve covers along with a cool new breather too. That'll have that taken care of. I dug out the push bar, stripped it and por15'ed it too. It'll be the guinea pig for the rubber liner stuff from Smart Shoppers. If it looks good on it then I'll shoot the underside of the tub this week too. Then onto some color for the firewall. |

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Well the Smart Shoppers stuff worked but if I had my way I'd of had it Rhino Lined. I'm for sure going to have the inside Rhino Lined. After all the prep work I busted out the gun to shoot the liner. Its a siphon gun, easy to use.... Or so I thought. I couldn't get it to work for nothin'. Tried it cleaned it tried it again, thinned the liner, tried it again, NO DICE! So after all the plastic and masking for nothing I rolled it on. So what shoulda took a hour at most took all afternoon. Good work out though. To start off just to make sure the stuff wasn't crap I rolled it on the push bar. Turned out nice. I got the firewall ready for primer. Tried to do it tonight but the bugs were swarming to the light and I figured little wings wouldn't look good on there. So hopefully by tomorrow night I'll have a yellow firewall and tailgate.
Almost forgot, meet the protectors of the garage, 30 or so goats, lol. Several of them horned..... Last edited by Big J; 07-24-2009 at 11:28 PM. |
