Re: 56 shop truck build
Down and out for the winter. I'll get the paint finished up and some bed floor installed along with buttoning up the finishing details of this thing.

Re: 56 shop truck build
Thanks for the info that you sent on my post. Looking on your link i noticed on page 3 the scrub line exceeds the "so called recomended heigth".I have taken leafs out and have airbags in the front, and cut and channeled the rear , on a couple leafs and bags as well. Did the original kingpins work for you or did you have to get a different size pin and bushings.I got a straight 6 and cruise at a whoping top speed of 52-56 mph ,but usually around town 30-40 mph. So the so called scrub line might not be a factor. Sorry for what seems to be some goofy questions after posting reply i seen some of the pics of the truck (newbee lol) .

Re: 56 shop truck build
i bought a factory replacement set of king pins and bearings. When i put the truck together I used all new components, especially the wear parts like king pins, bearing and shackles.
If I was to do it over again, I'd use 16" wheels instead of 15" to get that little bit extra ride height. But the truck ride great with this set up. I like the old school cool factor it gives it, especially when people ask what clip is in it

Re: 56 shop truck build
First off Tim is it, i'm calvin ...thanks again for the info. I was wondering what the incident you were reffering to with the dropped axle was? and was it pertaining to the scub line? When i dig my way to the garage i'll get some pics together of what i've got going on and updated photos of the truck. The one i posted is a old one.

Re: 56 shop truck build
we hit some nasty wash board pavement and it sent the truck hopping towards the ditch. Kind of like your back end does with leaf springs. We didn't see it coming otherwise i would have went around it and avoided the situation all together. But if we lived in a climate where I could drive this truck all winter, it would be my daily driver

Re: 56 shop truck build
Both those trucks look great. Love your paint work Tim. Mine has a ton of natural patina but sometimes I tempted to try to do like you did. But then I quickly chicken out. Lol In the pic above it looks like you don't have the angle corner brackets on behind your front bumper ? Couldn't see a bold head Just a word of caution as I had a fully restored 79 4x4dually one time. Just finished it that summer and because I didn't take the time to install the bumper corner brackets of course sumone had to back in to me. It pushed my bumper into the fender and caused all kinds of grief. Fender paint matching etc .It was a k car to boot. If I had taken 20 min and installed the dam brackets that were painted and hanging on the wall the truck never would have known the car was there. Just sharing my bad experience so sumone else can avoid it
Again truck looks great. Keep up the great work.

Re: 56 shop truck build
good to know man. I have to remove my bumper and straighten one bracket out a bit so the bumper will fit properly. This truck was in a front end collision about 30 years ago and it never got fixed. It's on my list of things to get buttoned up over the winter.

Re: 56 shop truck build
Tim, you ever thought about putting whitewalls on it? I think they would look really good with that patina finish.

Re: 56 shop truck build
yeah it's in the plan, just gotta save up the cashola for them. I'm also thinking of swapping the rally wheels out to a painted steel wheels with rings and caps. I'm probably going to wait until next year to swap the rims and tires. I'm going to install a Nova clip under it next winter.
These things are NEVER finished
