Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I've been spending the last few weeks trying to get my wheels finished to my satisfaction. I bought 8 inch rally's for the back and 7 inches up front. It has been hard finding a pair of thin trim rings for the front to match a wider pair on the back to enhance the wheel and tire size difference. Finally I found a wheel vintiques ring to fit with my metal valve stems. I wanted a little wider for the front, but this was the only compromise I could find. Here are a couple of pics. Tomorrow I'm doing a complete brake job to include new drums and slave cylinders.

I ran into the same issue when I switched to Rally wheels. I put the same size trim ring 1.75" on the front and rear. Not completely happy with it. What are the Wheel Vintages part numbers Your wheels looks great.

Been working on detailing the engine. Still out in the garage but the race and beer have kind of taken over. I at least need to get the new water pump installed before I call it a day.

Finally replaced the brake hoses on my 67 long step and successfully bled the brakes. Should be more or less driveable now, but out of gas. Couldn't drive it around to test. A little bit closer though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Today I blocked up my truck's cab, scraped, sanded, and blew off all the rust I could, and hit it with NAPA Rust Inhibitor. Tomorrow I'll spray the brackets with some rubber undercoating and next week.....put in the new cab-to-frame bushings!

And people wonder why I save all my scrap wood.....

Got most of my drum brake job done yesterday with the help of my father in law. Just waiting for inner bearing oil seals to finish up the fronts.

Got this thing outta there...

So this newly built 383 can go in there...

But first time for some super clean before frame paint...

And in a feat of typical ADD multitasking wizardry... mocking up for the new buckets while the superclean soaks in..

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Today felt like a bust but it was actually pretty productive.

I bought a 6" Craftsman vice. I thought about this one a long time: I figured a Wilton would be better but it would have involved $150.00 more plus a 140 mile round trip. Starting tomorrow, I'll mount her to my workbench.

I undercoated my bushing brackets.

I tried to drill out the broken bolt but my center punch would dull! That's one hard bolt!

The most important thing I did today was moving the crated fender outside. It weighs some 200 lbs in that crate it's in....it's outside now under a tarp. my neighbor come down and helped me carry it out. Now I have the room to make my fuel lines! Which I plan to start on as soon as the vice is mounted to the table.

Removed the plastic insert from the grill and cleaned up the hood latch assembly.

Will do. I went right from that project to brakes, so it is still up on a lift. I'm planning on getting some at a car show next weekend

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I thought about keeping them raw, but decided to paint the aluminum water pump and intake I want the engine to be as clean and original looking as possible...
I have a chrome alternator with low mount bracket, and a chrome air cleaner cover and breather/PCV. I think that will be plenty of shinny stuff.
