Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Those are going to look great with your front suspension and open engine compartment.

Your mpg--11.7--sounds pretty much normal to me. As a wholesale dealer, I've owned bunches of these models over the years, and the 6 cyl.'s with 3-speed stick shifts I've experienced mostly ran around 12-14, or less; and that was 55 mph driving on FLAT terrain here in SC, not the uphill-then-downhill-runs you make. Around town, they were considerably worse on gas.
I've heard of guys getting 15-18 mpg; but I've never personally experienced one doing anywhere near that--regardless of engine/tranny combos, or type of driving terrain.

**I've never tried even my own V-8/700R4 (overdrive) combo on highway runs as described above. All my runs have been mostly around town, 75-year-old-man-type driving; and we'll not even mention mpg's this combo delivers on such runs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I tried to back my truck out to drive it and got stuck. It's been nice weather here and the roads are clear but my driveway is ice covered and the truck is in a hole about a foot deep of snow. I'm going to drag it out with the 4x4 tomorrow and probably put the heater in it.

Put some ground wires between the cab & engine & frame, it made the lights brighter so it was needed...Vernski

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Made my first video clip with the dash camera yesterday, and discovered there was a hideous rattle in the camera itself which was so loud it blocked out the engine noise! Of course my truck has all sorts of harmonic vibrations which are probably what set off the rattles at just the right rpm.

Several hours and modifications later I believe all the rattles have been eliminated. Hopefully later today I can try again and capture someone worth posting.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Swaped front tires to put smaller ones on, mine are too wide to get her on the carhualer. She will be going to the exhaust shop Friday to get duals!
Also wired the license plate light and hooked up a temp. radio so I'll have some tunes!
Readjusted the hood some more.
Doing a little tightening up so I can drive her next weekend!
Can't wait my wife's grandmother gets the first ride! She has been asking for months now!!

Talking Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Hey all, just joined and this is my first post in the forum. This week (sorry not today but didn't know where to post this) I acquired my grandpa's '64 GMC from my uncle. Pulled out the 250 and 3 speed with overdrive that my uncle had put in it in 1987 because he wants it for his 55 GMC. My plan is to paint it black and put a 455 Olds and turbo 400 in it this summer!

Welcome to the forum. Make sure to take lots of pictures right away. It's always disappointing after years of upgrades and improvements to discover there aren't any "before" pictures!

Did a check-up in storage, make sure nothing was stolen out of it. lol

We're selling it - still in project mode. Almost there though - rough interior, etc.
If anyone is interested, let me know

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Hung the Queens City AC unit, found the problem with the dash lights. It was the dimmer switch. Bypassed it and they work. Worked on a door today. Found some rust behind the door handle while I was stripping it. Cut it out and worked on skimming it.
