Like there are a shortage of old trucks to watch cruize in Cali right? Thanks, I'd love to take a serious road trip in it, but don't think I'd go that far.

Thanks, but yours is looking spectacular. Try and keep the dust off after you're done. I've had black cars before.

Good news/bad news again.

Good first, truck is getting taped today, and sprayed very soon.

Bad news, the 2 stuck injectors are still stuck and the tech said probably corroded shut. They are a no-go.

Good news (maybe), he's going to see if some dodge injectors might be comparable. Holley made the injectors for dodge throttle bodies, it's just a matter of finding a pair that have flow rates similar to the pro-jection kit or a v-8 anyway.

Bad news, didn't get the bottom side painted.

Good news, I got one of the wheel tubs back in, and most of the major rust repair done. There are a few holes to take care of yet, but all of them could be done after paint and after the bed is on the truck again.

I'm just doing things now that will need to be done eventually while the truck is at the body shop. Mainly want to get it running and will buy the injector upgrade kit for it if needed. Looking forward to getting glass and exhaust and hitting the road.

But not tonight. Tonight I'm taking the kids up to Minneapolis to see the Twins play the Rays.

Ask my wife how she feels about that "daily" delivery.

My hopes are high right now that I'll get all the bugs worked out and have it cruizing this summer yet, but everytime I try to estimate a time for completion of anything it takes at least twice as long as predicted. At the start of the paint job I was guessing mid June. It should have been running before now, but for complications. I'd like to get the other wheel tub in later today, but have my doubts I'll get the time.

I haven't spent 10 minutes on my Jimmy since the paint started and it just needs some adjustments and tweeks to be a solid runner I think.

Anyway, hopefully more paint today to bring the ear to ear grin back.

Hey, keep it up. Don't feel bad, I haven't fired the engine I fixed for my Longhorn yet and it hasn't been fired for about 3-4 years. Poor thing.

It's in the booth right now, getting the sealer sprayed on it. I'll probably grab my mask and go over in a bit to see it happen and maybe learn some for when the Jimmy gets painted. They are planning on wet sanding and polish this week yet. Hopefully the bed will get done next week. Pics later.

Great looking truck so far! Curious how you got the bed so good!? I'm wondering how you got that piece thats welded in on the back drivers side by the tailgate to look so flush with the rest of the bed? Did you cut it off a parts bed truck? Or what did you do to get it lookin like that!??

That would be insanely boring, but thanks.

That was a section of blazer floor, actually from the front of the bed floor of a blazer I parted out. I kept a few of those pieces for patches. You might notice the rear edge is a bit different from the original, it is bent down about 1/4" in from the edge. Any patches can be made flush as long as you take the time and don't cut too small to start with. Or do like me and just fill the gaps with weld and grind it down.

Soooo, how many body shops will let the customer in the paint booth while their project is getting sprayed? (cell phone pics, not the greatest, but better than nothing.)

First coat...

Getting there...

Starting the clear...

Done with the 1st coat of clear...

I had to leave before the other 2 coats of clear went on. Sand and polish comes next. Hopefully will have it home for the weekend and get the bed in right after.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Ya! I noticed that it's a tad "shorter" but with the tailgate closed I bet nobody will be able to tell and even with it open I'm sure it wouldn't be that noticable! Nice paint! That's crazy you gotta be in there during the process. I've always wanted to see a car get painted.

It looks awesome! I used to work in a body shop while I was going through college. It is a great feeling seeing something you rebuilt or repaired look so nice right when it's sprayed.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Stopped by this morning to see the final results and brought a better camera. It looks great. The guys there said I did a good job getting it straight. They hardly had to do anything but sand it and touch up some primer spots where it was thin. The wet sanding is started, they are using 2000 grit and will polish it tomorrow.

I was trying to think of when I last saw a reflection off the surface of my paint and it was sometime in the summer of 1987. That's when I had some jackass do the body work and went with all black primer. Before that, it was pretty dull paint, rust, some dents, etc.

Look at her now...

AWESOME! The paint looks great! I guess you weren't as bad as you thought with your body work skills. All those hours of sanding starting to pay off big time. Keep the pics coming. You know we have to have visuals

It looks awesome! Seeing it about ready to come out of the booth is a great feeling isn't it? The next feeling is when you get it back home and realize how much work is still ahead. It'll be alright though.

Mmmmm, seeing the clouds off the hood will definitely be a treat.

Just went over to take a break from my paperwork (eeewwweeee) and helped with the wet sanding. I did half the hood and half of the cab back end. Then we rolled it out of the booth so they could spray something else in there. The drivers door and fender still need to be sanded. I'm hoping to get home tomorrow early enough to learn how to polish.

I have a pretty good idea of what's left after paint, and can't wait to get started.

Sounds like the bed won't get done before my vacation starts, so I'll have to wait til I get back to see it all together.

Yep, sure does.

But we had a set back today. When the truck roof was getting polished, the guys knee was pushing into the driver door and put a dent in it. It's been fixed, but still needs to be re-sprayed. So I probably wont get it back til next week.

And I also talked to the guy that was working on the fuel injectors. They are definitely stuck, no movement at all. The Dodge ones are slightly different and might not fit the holes in the throttle body right. It's a bosch style side feed injector and I'll have to find an alternate or buy the upgrade kit. (edit: I just bought a pair that should be compatible off ebay, so maybe next week I can try to fire it up again.)

Other than that, the truck is looking good. It has a nice smooth shiny paint job now and I'll be driving it in August. Gotta think positive.
