Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Some GM literature states the 292 weighs 561 lbs dry with clutch. I don't know about that accuracy but I'm going to look into it. At any weight, it's still a rad motor!

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I think a I6 with a turbo would be a lot of fun to drive around.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Does anybody else's truck accelerate faster when the pedal is half to the floor as opposed to pedal to the metal? is that just the torque curve of the 6 or a carb issue?

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I didn't go thru all 25 pages of this thread but has anybody done a T5 tranny swap in a 250? I found a article online for swapping T5's on 216, 235, and 261 older straight sixes. So I was curious if this would would work on a early 70's 250??
I drug home a 72 Suburban and it has the 250 straight 6 with a 3 speed behind it. I'd like to keep the 6 just from reading a few pages of this thread. Seems like a really good motor and plus it's already in the burban. But I'm completely clueless when it comes to these motors, ha!

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
'76 vintage 292 with Tom Lowes cam/lifter and big valve kit in the head that is milled .060, 1.72 ratio rockers. Original pistons with new rings, block stone honed. Hedman header and Clifford intake are cermachromed. Holley 390. Pertronix billet distributor.
Broke it in on a test stand and it sounds like an exotic V6 ! Even has a slight lope at idle... Looking for a big truck dipstick assembly. Tube needs to be 13" long. Going in my '52 2 ton. Future car hauler. |

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
RE : longer dip stick & tube ;
Look in G - vans , that's where I found mine , fits all I6 engines , you'll need to replace the middle bolt in the tappet cover as it's a studded bolt to support thwe dip stick tube to prevent it from cracking . There are several versions & lengths , I like the really long one that ends next to the radiator's tank , makes it dead easy to check the oil level . Here's also an end support on the longer ones , make sure to grab that too . Did I ever post pix of my late model Mexican 292 ? .

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
I was lusting for one of those too but came up a bit short in the funds department by the time I got the engine built. I solved that by getting a cheap aftermarket cover that leaks like a sieve...
