Re: No Limit's "K-10"
Just read thru the whole build, awesome work! Ive been around stock car racing all my life, and want to do something like this on my next build, plus I have a lot of the racing parts laying around that I could use. Ive got a few questions that Ive noticed while reading thru your build.
1. you say the truck scaled out around 2900lbs with 53% front and you are running 400lb front springs. How big of a sway bar are you running? The latest rage in the asphalt circle track stuff is the big bar/ soft spring setup with huge sway bars and bump stops. Has anyone tried this with what you guys do? In a car of that weight, they will start with 175/200 in front(with coilovers), huge bar, and bumpstop the front with the crossmember 1/2 inch off the ground. They have different durometer bumps stops to load the tires with proper loading, and gets the center of gravity a lot lower that a conventional setup, with zero body roll. They also use huge rebound shocks to keep the body roll to a minimum. 2. I love the wide 5 hubs you went with, have you tried the oil filled hubs winters and a few other companies have recently came out with? Instead of using regular wheel bearing grease, they have a plug in the hub to add about 4 oz of oil. almost zero rolling resistance. They also make bearing spacers for those that makes it easy to set zero preload and zero play on your wheel bearings. Our car is 3250lbs and one guy can push around the shop easily with this stuff, and thats with a spool in the rear. Just thought I would throw a few things out there. You guys may already be onto this stuff, but figured it wouldnt hurt to mention. Keep up the great work! I will be following |

Re: No Limit's "K-10"
Thanks. We're moving toward the sfter spring set ups, but we're stuck with a 200 tread wear min. tire rule. So, there is a point at whick the tire won't hold that agressive of a set-up. Tuesday night I broke a rod end on the sway bar link, so, it was either in a bind, or just not up to the task. So, I guess we'll step up to some chromoly hi-missalignment ends. We are using the bearing spacers from Joe's, didn't know about the oil filled hubs - but, This will be street drivin a bunch, so I do need to keep it somewhat on the OE side for durability sake. If you have the spare parts, you should build one, too much fun for sure. Head to Pleasanton in june for the GoodGuys show, we'll be there.

The gears were set up too tight- it has been remedied. I do think they whine a little more than commuter-based axles, but not that much...

Re: No Limit's "K-10"
Aren't you reading about it now?? lol. Full info on the motor build in Truckin' soon. Here's a tip, standard grade 3/8" rod ends may not be up to the task of the 'big bar' plan. I pulled one apart tues night. So, it chromoly high mis-alignment ends. Give me a shout today if you can. How's the Bank's meet coming?

Re: No Limit's "K-10"
Pict 1. So, I bought these trick adjusters, and they were bound up like crazy. It's back to that whole bushing/sleave/fit thing. So, after learning of this, I made some bushings from delron, and drilled the adjusters for zerks. It is MUCH smoother now. Pict 2. Hmmm, 500 lb springs, bad idea at 2:00am. 400 lb next to them going in. The lower mount on the A-arm has four mount points for the lower coil over. We moved them inboard one hole to the #3 spot, to soften the front a bit.
P.S. - see the rod end in the pict? It pulled it apart tueday night. ![]()

Re: No Limit's "K-10"
Mother Trucker Tour, sounds like a bad movie title, a bad comedy maybe. Isn't $15 bucks a little steep for a grease rag? Chris now when your building your new truck we are turning both directions at high rate of speed!

Re: No Limit's "K-10"
I'm sure there'll be some comedy, action and drama. Just look at the band (I'll hold back from any other titles, such as 'band of misfits'...) Well there's us with the new Hell Boy C-10 and the 'Bullit, Trent and his super-late-model C-10, Chris from Smitty's, Greg from Ridetech, Kevin Bapst, add in a few Texans, and some Tenn. truckers and thats shapin up like a party. Now if we can get Justin from Scotts to bring out his new truck, and Nate Porter to show off his stuff, that would be a group of truckers to be seen!

Re: No Limit's "K-10"
Went back to AMP last night. After actually aligning the front end, and setting a baseline for air pressure, the truck feels a lot more balanced. Camber is at -1 3/4*, Caster is at +6 1/2*, and toe is at 3/16" out. Front tires at 28psi, rear at 23psi. Tire temps were pretty consistent, after a few laps, we dropped the rears to 22psi. We check tire temps in three spots on each tire - outside, center, and inside, this way you can track where the tire is hot and decide what to do next. The front tire temps started to show a patern, lft ft out = 121, lft ft ctr = 114, , lft ft in = 109, ... rt ft out = 108, rt ft ctr = 110, rt ft in = 120. Last night we ran in a clockwise direction, mostly right turns, knowing that the caster/camber is even, I can expect that these numbers would flip if we ran the other way. So, it looks like we need more caster. Also, there is a 'tight' spot in the steering about 10* into a right turn, not sure what it is, but we really need to find and fix it. The average lap for the night was 48.22, with a fast lap of 47.35, thats pretty encouraging that we're that close to the 46 sec barrier.
