Now, this is a nice story, but with the typical ending of how the computer age is turning the younger humans into idiot savants, knowing how to do one thing very well, Iphoneitis, computeritis, etc. But your region of the world sounds heavenly~ Gods country!

Our 17 year old daughter has just started expressing interest in the 55 Chevy sedan I have sitting in the driveway. She works a well paying part time job and wants to start saving money so she can fix it up and drive it some day. It's nice to hear her say that, but she has yet to come out and throw on a set of coveralls to help on my truck and see what it's all about. I have faith that she will one day pick up the hobby. My 15 year old son would love to have a classic to drive all year round, but he lacks the drive to learn anything new. He's still in the teenage slug phase.

I'd get some work done if my cell phone would quit ringing! argh! lol

This morning, this humid hot morning, I relocated the spring pads on the rear end. They were spaced too wide at 42.5", so I moved them to 41.5", amazing amount of work for just 1"~!
Then showing My Little Mule I at work! I'm telling ya~ you need one of these things!





The manual hoyer lift screw mechanism weighs alot, so I can put a little more weight way out and still won't tip over. I'm wanting to make a counter weight for heavier items that need to be further out. I love My Little Mule!

Hey Strider, the axle was already in my truck, but was in desperate need of attention! Dave Chapman which is very close by, he was there for me in my helping him put new parts in the axle. It's nothing special, as it's not a posi, but is serving me well! Check out the blog below

Love the blog. I think I read it before I found this build and then remembered reading parts of the blog.
I have a 57 GMC I'm building and have an 85 10 bolt and two 12 bolts but am thinking of going with a 69 camaro 10 bolt I have a line on. Can you measure your rear axle from wheel mount to wheel mount? I'm curious as to how that sizeable 12 bolt tucks in between the fenders. I think my 10 bolt and 12 bolts are too wide, hence the Camaro axle choice if I can acquire it.

Thank you! It takes a while to go through build threads, I've read many! Incredible journeys! Now if I can just get that rear end back together! We've been on vacation for the past week and I'm anxious to get back to work! Actually working on my projects is challenging fun and I consider them vacations

Hi! Thank you for reading my thread! When I read my own build thread, it's like I'm reading someone else's build thread! Mistakes were made, bad choices, but I do consider every page a learning lesson. I hope on this next project to do better! And yes, that BRGreen is more then likely the color it will wind up being

Oh! I forgot to say that the truck looks great and your use of the "mule" inspired me to get one for myself! Much easier than using the forklift for the smaller stuff!

Oh my, sorry for not answering sooner! forgive me! I'm so happy that you may build a "little Mule"~! if you do, please post a picture! I cannot express how much that mini crane has saved my back! And thank you so much for the compliments!!!!

The rear axle looks fab with the new cover!
Could I ask you a favour? Please post a couple of pics of your "mule" for me so I can copy it...
What do you use for lifting, wire? Or hydralics?

cfisher, I don't know how to set up the ring and pinion, but I do know how to take the thing apart, clean it up and make it look nice. Dave Chapman (The Hollister road company) will be setting that part up this Friday if all goes well. He's been Superman for his help and expertise in electrical necessities(relays, etc)!

So, I hope all goes well on the rebuilding of my rear axle~ I bought this back cover off of ebay~ it's looks really neat! Should look great peaking out from the underneath! I just put a couple bolts on to hold it, so I could step back and marvel at it!
Maybe next week I'll have this old truck back on the ground again!

I think you'll have the only 12 bolt that can twerk. That cover is huge
