Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Looking great, Frank! I'm jealous, mine's a pile of parts right now.

No pics because they'd be boring but I stripped my driver's door of EVERYTHING inside and out to drop it off at the sandblaster this week. I'll do the passenger side tomorrow. Painter wants to fit them to the cab and set up the gaps. So far, I'm very pleased with this body man.

Remeasured for air ride tanks and ordered two of these. Like the fact they come with adjustable mounting brackets.

Weekend project:
Installed new HEI Dist and new Edlebrock carb and fuel pump and lines.

Other than the massive vacuum leak that from the carb everything looks an runs good. I will have to pull the carb and reinstall.

Took a couple of pics to send in for a calendar contest. The least I'll get is a free shirt!

OrrieG. I made the battery box so that the tray slides out and then tilts forward for battery R&R or maintenance.

Picked up the new block and heads this am. Prepped, primed and put color on it. Waiting on the new high rise to come in, hopefully we'll have it back in the truck next week!

Buy a factory assembly manual $30 all over the internet. It gives you information like this: (sorry for the orientation don't have time to fiddle with it).

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Reaffirmed my build direction and motivation by reading this forum (thanks for the pickmeup, guys) and re-watched some favorite how-to videos online. Then coming to the realization that another parts buying frenzy may be needed...and the plastic money i was using for this build was getting hot enough already.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

No pix (they'd be boring anyway) but finally got out two VERY stubborn clutch head screws holding in the window winding mechanism on my driver's door.

After not having a clue how to get the guts out of our doors I figured it out on the passenger side and thought the driver's side would be a snap - NOT. The clutch heads tore out and I had to use a chisel to get them to rotate.

Both doors are now ful,y naked and will be dropped off at the blaster's tomorrow and later in the week to the bodyshop.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Installed the horns, but had to troubleshoot the wiring for them. Turned out that either the wire between the horn relay and the column harness came loose, or was hidden in the harness and I did not notice it. After I got it corrected found one horn has decided to bleat instead of honk so will need to dig another out of the stash. I tested it before I cleaned and painted it, but who knows what happened. Nice to know my steering column adaption is going to work. First time ever the truck has had a horn, it was MIA when I got it in 76.

Took a ride out to Holt train station for a 1940's weekend event. Had a lovely day, spitfire flying over added to the 1940's atmosphere

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Installed a battery isolator switch after having the battery drained two times (after 3 weeks not running the truck).
Hope this will solve the trouble.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Over the weekend I built a custom overhanging brake pedal and steering column bracket assembly for my 56 GMC. Part of it came from a '70 Chevrolet pickup. It's definitely unique!

Bought clear to finish the doors and misc interior stuff. Also go a pint of the green I think will work to try out.
