Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Thanks! No test drive soon. Still waiting on some key parts. I'm getting a rebuilt trans by trading some core trannys, and I still need conversion lines. Once I get some other work done, I'll hit this hard.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I used a steering box brace from a 73 up 4wd frame. The holes did not line up perfect on my frame. I don't know why for sure, but I took care of it.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
If it was me I would hold off on the cab lights until rest of the truck is done, Id hate to drill through a freshly painted cab like that, too bad you don't have bumps for the stock lights.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
They're just setting there. I wanted to get an idea what they'd look like. I want cab lights on it but don't really want the OE style since I don't have the raised roof light cab. I will be installing these on this cab. Fresh paint yes, I'll just have to be careful.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
The lights look good. They wouldn't look good on a lowered 2wd or anything with a gas engine. But you are building a truck. Still would be hard to drill the new paint.

Do what i do ....
I have a buddy that drills the holes in my new paint and hits my builds with hammers when i can't do it.....And i drill and hit his truck with my hammer....lol...it's team work. I have no prblems drilling holes in anyones fresh paint but i sure do cringe drilling mine

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
the trick is not to think about the money or the time involved , i been working oncar worth a LOT of money and things only start to go wrong when you hessitate or be too carefull
personally i wouldnt put the lights on there even if they look good , its just more holes it can leak through and rust out , maibe you can put something like bike indicators on a rollbar in the bed so they stick out a little above the roof and do the same thing

i used to build rock buggies and custom 4x4s and frequently they would have 100k pricetags. finally figured to quit worrying and things got messed up alot less. same thing with brand new out of the box parts that cost more than several paychecks. by the end it was fun to hack something expensive all to pieces. ryan |
