Thanks.
I found the ones you are talking about at LMC. Not a big fan of there quality. But will use them if I have to. The lower bearing and housing is my biggest concern right now. I have it completely disassembled. I guess there are no replacements from later models like you found for the upper bearing race?

Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

The guy I bought the drive shaft from couldn't find the carrier bearing bracket. I got one from another board member. He is shipping it to me sometime this week or next. Like you said they are every where. I am now in a place in my build that I can start back working on the old girl. I am not going to paint untill after the first of the year. After the snow has melted and gone.

My build is on hold on account of weather, so I'm saving up cash to hit it hard in the spring.

Glad to see you resurface, Brian. Thought we might have to send out a search party for you. I think the weather has all of us in the midwest hunkering down. Seems like one frigid cold front after another. Nothing like a little cash and warm weather to jump start a project, though.

Thanks George.
I'm an amateur though most of this stuff is new to me so I'm learning as I go and it will be far from show quality when I am finished simply because I don't have the necessary experience to do a restoration at that level, plus I don't really have the patience either haha, my plan all along was to make a nice driver.
I am just throwing a lot of money at it and hoping for the best, we will see how it all comes out.

This is the same thought process I have used to build mine and I think it works pretty well, especially for a couple of amateurs like us Nice looking build you have going, you will be happy you went with rear discs. I know I am.

What do you mean, you don't have the experience? What I seen and the talks we had on the phone tells me different. For the rear brake conversion will be a cake walk compaired to the lS3 swap.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

Hey all;
As expected my CPP order took a full week to ship so I'm right on schedule LOL.
I have never done a rear disk conversion (add it to the list of firsts) so this should be fun.
Considering I have to pull the axle shafts I will pray to the truck gods that the shafts aren't worn to the point that they are unusable.
While I'm in there I plan to inspect and if necessary replace parts as needed.
I'm not looking forward to this part but I really dislike drum brakes and I would rather spend the time and money doing the conversion than simply repairing the drum brake setup.
Of course there is the added benefit of the improved braking characteristics because when it comes to saving your own ass because someone else doesn't know how drive excellent brakes are key as you all know.
I will post another update once the conversion kit arrives.
Until next time...

Typically, aftermarket disc brake kits are meant to bolt on so you shouldn't have to modify much. On twelve bolt rear ends, the wear (and/or corrosion) is most often located where the axle shaft rides on the roller bearings. I have a puller for the axle roller bearings if you decide they need to be replaced. I've also seen some homemade pullers on the forum for "once in a lifetime, out in the boondocks" rebuilds where it's more of a PITA to run down a shop tool.

[Popcorn popping] Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Hey all;
The fedex man showed up with the good stuff!
Now if I could only get motivated to do the installation that would be great.
