Reclaimed Southern Yellow Pine

Milled out of @ 100 year old 2 x 12 rafters from the old Westinghouse facility in East Pittsburgh.

It was cheap and my buddy Harry did the planing and such - Harry is 93. Downside it was HARD on the planer blades but it came out pretty nice.

The grain is awesome and the boards are full of nail holes, which we'll fill with clear epoxy before applying a clear finish.

My wife's grandfather worked there back in the day, so it also has some history - which I thought was sort of cool.

Cedar would be a great set up with the colors and grain now that you mention it.

Thanks - rg

Painted the valve cover Saturday. Been busy with duty yesterday so I apologize for the lateness of the photo.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

(posting today because I finally downloaded the pics)
Went to a swap meet Saturday and picked up parts for the truck.

The important one was the radiator support that is better than mine was. I cut the rot out on the "new" support & welded in patches. On sunday I ground down the rust and started painting it. More details & pics in my build thread for those interested.

Being from the "Burgh", I remember that place growing up. That wood grain is asume and the history to go with it makes it even that much better.

For sure - Greetings from the "Burgh"!

I used to work down in that valley at the old Union Railroad building doing light and heavy rail wiring... must have been quite a place back in the day.

I'm originally from Savannah & now living in PA / there you are originally from PA now living down South... what a country!

Heather's grandfather helped with some of the original wiring of equipment that went on Hyman G. Rickover's first nuke (Nautilus); then I met Heather while we were both serving in Navy (Sub Group 6) at Charleston SC.

Life's a trip, so enjoy the journey.

Let's go Pens!! rg

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

For what its worth, there was a good article on the HAMB about not storing glass flat as it will loose its shape. Many people wrote in how they cracked on install due to storing them flat.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

I love my truck, because it still works.

Always useful when a load will not fit into the works Golf.

Got some packing crate sheets of ply for Martin and another crate that I will be making smaller for Nicola, as she has a WWI memorial to set up at work, so it will be a rough made coffin when done.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Removed trailing arms to lower rear and fix broken bolts in the lower spring retainers. Cleaned up trailing arm for a fresh coat of por15. Hoping to get things back together this weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Working on these trucks makes it all worth it when you can hop in and be on the road for 10 days.Did a fluids check and packing for a 2500 mile trip towing the Burro. Meeting up with 3 others that have already left from MT,ID and WA. Hitting Disneyland and the Santa Maria Ledsled show and cruise.

.
.
.
.
The 65 is a great camp rig, tow rig etc but the Burb makes it into the 61 and older crowd at the show.
