Re: Project "Shifted"

Enough about the ChubTubz .....Back to regularly scheduled programming, . Finally some updates on the 68. I've been waiting to install my Porterbuilt hinges because I was trying to figure out a way to mount them without welding to my painted hood. I designed a bracket that will bolt on to where the factory hood hinge bolts on and the allows the PBFab hinge to be attached to it. I just got them back from my machine shop and here's a couple of picture of the brackets. I will try to get everything installed this weekend and then will post more pictures. Let me know what you think.

I got a little done yesterday. Passenger side hood hinge is installed. Just need to finish up the drivers side. Then I will install the nutserts on the hood and bolt it all together and see if it works.....

Thanks Seth, I appreciate it. I finally got both hood hinges installed. I just need to fine tune them a little. Next I will shoot some paint on the parts and install the nutserts on the hood, then I can try my new bolt on hood hinge brackets and see if they work like I planned, . Hopefully this project will be wrapped up by the weekend, . Oh, I forgot to mention, I figured out a way to install the hood hinge pocket in the cowl without cutting the cowl. All you have to do is slot the pocket in the correct place, .

Re: Project "Shifted"

Dumb question Rob, is the pocket the piece that bolts inside the cowl? Looks like additional support pieces bolted outside the cowl? Thanks! Looks good.

Those brackets connect to the inner pocket and mount the gas struts. Last night I got everything bolted up and mounted. I still need to tweek it a little, but I'm pretty happy with the setup.

Thanks, I haven't heard that in a long time, .

I'm having another set cut out of stainless next week.

Re: Project "Shifted"

I wonder if those brackets will draw unwanted attention to themselves being stainless, maybe some speed holes would make them look a little better because right now they are kind of big and wide so it seems like it might be better if they sort of blended into the hood.
Out of curiosity how much adjustability is there with those hood hinges, I can't help but wonder if the added thickness of the custom bracket is going to be a problem or not.

I agree on the shiny part, just thought I would give people another option. As far as the thickness, my brackets are the same thickness as the weld on brackets that they replace, .
