Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

got something done today... not much but something...

made it to autozone and picked up a new fan clutch, and U-joints.

Also continued converting the column collar for the van tilt. THis "pot metal" is weird stuff... kinda mushy when you try to grind or cut it... I'll grind the epoxy down tomorrow and see how smooth it comes out...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

well, didn't do much this weekend...

did work on the column conversion, sanded down the collar and hit it with some etching primer... can pot metal be powdercoated? or should I just paint this and the tube...

off to Florida for the week... more next week..maybe

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

just realized how bad those pics sucked... sorry

I think it could use a little skim coat (glaze?) and another sanding and be pretty clean...

did my wife put you up to that one?

need wiring $500
need brakes $250
exhaust $250
paintjob $2K?
weatherstrip $150 (ordered w/$200 of knick knacks)
more glass $100

all that on my $100/month allowance....that's 3 more years!

but seriously I plan to hang sheetmetal this summer and finish the mechanicals... and if I seel some items and paintjob has been promised with upcoming promotion (within a year?) then I could see this somewhat complete next summer...

American Auto Wire just came out with a 69-72 updated kit. Totally compete with new fuses, ends, and everything you need...

$485 from our board vendor, I saw it on Ebay for $458... I guess there is some interference with a 67/68 E-brake cable so we'll see what happens with that...

http://musclerodzstore.com/index.asp...ROD&ProdID=689

I just dropped $340 at Truck shop for a lot of little "knick knack" crap that you need. Weatherstrip kit, column bearing, tilt levers, etc...

They were running 10% off until tonight but the shopping cart didn't deduct it, I have to call them Monday morning now... I better not lose $37...

I'm gonna start pulling items to get ready for blasting and powder. Do you have semi-gloss or satin?

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

ok, I am not sure what I will do yet for wiring? I think I have a little of both. the only problem is they are different brands, eastwood and columbia coatings. columbia is who I use now, theirs flows so much better when baked. here is their link, you can check out all of the colors and get what you like or let me know and I can order it. depending on what color and how many parts you have I might not have enough?

I know how you feel about spending the money! I have been spending alot to on odd ball stuff and it adds up to quick! motors, mounts, hardware and bump-stops etc..http://store.columbiacoatings.com/

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

buying MOTORS would get expensive.. very quickly!

Here's the list i'm thinking right now for powdercoating.

Pulleys (crank, water, power steering)
Brackets (alternator, power steering pump)
Fan 17" 5 blade
Booster bracket
Hood hinges springs
Hood latch
Air cleaner

I think i'll paint the rad support, inner fenders, seat frames, column, door panels all semi-gloss black or take them to the local guy with a bigger oven in the future.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

ok, that will not be a problem. I just checked and 1/2lb is $6.99 and 1lb is $11.99. That is for columbia coatings satin black powder. I would get a 1lb that way you have enough I would hate to not have all of the same color. you will probably have left over but at that price I am always safe than sorry. if you do have extra I can always buy it from you and use it later. I am hoping to get mine into roller form today, so when ever would be ok since I would be able to make space and hang your parts. just let me know when your ready!

I don't think I should need anything. Thanks for the offer though. The only thing I will need is what size, length you need your bung to be. Also if the piece you will be getting needs a certain diameter or we can open it to what we need.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I'll try getting an aluminum bung from the tank maker first. He was suppose to add it when built so maybe he'll just toss it into an envelope for me. I'll order the powder tomorrow, have you ever tried the "high temp" powder for exhaust manifolds?

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Got some new parts in yesterday.. Truck Shop in CA was running a 10% special and if you spend $250 you get free shipping... Guess I got a little happy clicking on their catalog. This is MOST of the little crap needed to finish the truck up. I really only needed the door weatherstripping (which came free with my latest project truck!)...
