Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
No, thats Ol John Lee in the pic. I did do some degreasing to make it a little more workable. Note.....lower pass side ball joint is broken. I'm replacing of coarse, but add it to the damage tally.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I'm going to trash the ball joints that I remove. I know they only have a few hundred miles on them, but do to the collision I don't want anyone else to take any chances with them.
The dirt wasn't in the way, just made it easier to get less of it on me. I can take the tarp off the bed soon and finish the rear frame. Then get it welded and the trailer won't be far off. The front crossmember seems to have made it through just fine. Plenty of bends in the frame though. And also noticed the pass side drum had a crack in it. The spindles look good though if you have any interest or use for them.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I agree on the joints, not worth the risk of early failure. And, No, hard as it was hit, I'd put the spindles under a flame wrench to prevent their use in the future or dump em into the recycle bin for the next trip to the scrapper....should get ya 9 cents per pound on steel here locally. Just old iron and not worth the chance they are now cracked....prolly not but no one will ever magnaflux or dye test em.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I'll keep the good drum off the driver side, but the rest will end up in the scrap yard then. The front brake lines looked new and I saved those. (I pick up the new 63 Saturday and don't know what all it'll need yet.) Those rubbers made get reused if the ones on the truck are shot. Might be able to salvage the driver side drum also. The cross shafts looked fine, and all the bolts came out just as I wanted them too.

Yep, the rubbers had less than 2000 miles on em at the time of the attack.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
OK, here it is. Just back from picking up the seat. What do you guys think? Marine grade vinyl and SMS fabric. Total cost off material & labor less than $500.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thank you Racer2172, this one was a long time in the works, so I'm glad to see it done. Now I have to wait a few months before install.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Another picture....the cloth is hard to shoot, it keeps looking almost "dirty", have to have good light. These pics are from the shop. The pic two posts above looks much better.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Couple more pics of the seat. One of the seat bottom and one of the original seat tag. Tag reads Top line: 2 25 63 Reynolds and bottom line part #3769168
I had a "stiffner" pad added over the springs and we went to 5" foam pad in place of the original 1" foam pad. Had the burlap replaced also. All springs were in great shape and no repair was needed there. Sitting on it is like night and day from the old foam and lmc cover that was installed in 2009.

Did the shop make a template from the other cover for future use?

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
That came out sweet. Glad I could help with the template.
Good job 1963-c10. Looks like an original. If they kept the measurements it might help others on the board.

The whole thing was a gamble, because you don't have another one to look at to see how it'll really look finished. I hope to see some more 63 seats in different colors....already have mind working for the short fleet!!!!! And yes, he made a template in case anyone else needs seats done. I'd be glad to help facilitate a cover for someone if it'll help any or i can provide his contact and you can deal with him directly. I supplied vinyl/cloth/seat/$350 and he supplied the rest. He sent me back a great product.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
After going out and taking some more pics and really looking at the seat....looks like 5" foam on the seat and 2.5" on the back. I had him leave the original burlap on and the original back batting as well because it was in such nice shape. I did have him put new burlap over the old (which is what he recommended due to the age), and he installed a thick jute style pad to the seat before adding the foam and new covers. It gives it a nice firm seat, but a nice soft cushion to sit on. Feels great on my back, which I broke bullriding and again bronc riding in my younger days....so was definitely an upgrade.
