Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

it might have pulled heat were it was a butt weld rather than a back to back plug weld, causing your blow thru. were your welds ok once you ground down the spot and removed the primer? on the connecting welds. just something i had thought of.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I think I had some thin spots from to much grinding...

Only way to fix was to build it up on the back and fill in the front and grind it back down... Or cut out all the metal and start over.

hmm, maybe we should talk about your welding fee before we get rolling!

You still looking for a bench seat? I have one for trade for some welding/powdercoating work...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

original bench out of my 68, has been recovered and seems to have good bones. Folds forward and has a decent cover on it now. It's green so it could easily be painted with that duplicolor vinyl paint to match better...

I need to do my crank pulley, small fan, water pump pulley, alt bracket and PS bracket. Can you do PS pumps too? SOmething in a semigloss...

I also am thinking about coating my window vents semi-gloss black too... I don't think your over is large enough though.

that would be no problem doing that stuff. the vent windows i can do if they dont fit on an angle in the oven with my lamp. i think i can do the power steering pump but will check with the guy i get my powder from to see what he thinks, ok.

does your bench slide forward and back smoothly? i am definately interested. if you want to call it even, i would be good with the coating and welding for the bench, let me know.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I think it works well.. I'll check it out when in a bit and see...

The vent window parts might come off and fit easily into you oven...I have to strip one down and see...

You don't have a media blaster cabinet do you?

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

got something done today... not much but something...

made it to autozone and picked up a new fan clutch, and U-joints.

Also continued converting the column collar for the van tilt. THis "pot metal" is weird stuff... kinda mushy when you try to grind or cut it... I'll grind the epoxy down tomorrow and see how smooth it comes out...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

well, didn't do much this weekend...

did work on the column conversion, sanded down the collar and hit it with some etching primer... can pot metal be powdercoated? or should I just paint this and the tube...

off to Florida for the week... more next week..maybe

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

just realized how bad those pics sucked... sorry

I think it could use a little skim coat (glaze?) and another sanding and be pretty clean...

did my wife put you up to that one?

need wiring $500
need brakes $250
exhaust $250
paintjob $2K?
weatherstrip $150 (ordered w/$200 of knick knacks)
more glass $100

all that on my $100/month allowance....that's 3 more years!

but seriously I plan to hang sheetmetal this summer and finish the mechanicals... and if I seel some items and paintjob has been promised with upcoming promotion (within a year?) then I could see this somewhat complete next summer...
