Did the old farmer get the best of you? I bet you were out there just workin on your suntan all day.
Parts store should have the correct hoses, but I'd take my old ones with me just to save a return trip. |

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Ok, I have been workin on the truck just havent posted manupdaes, mostly lil stuff..
Got a cheap air breather today..and some other misc things... Ruined my nice hood, long story short: It was on the roof of the truck, it came a bad summer afternoon storm, I was scramblin to cover up motor with bag (no air filter/hood), hood blew off hit me in the side, i tried to catch it and cut my thump pretty deep, and the hood has dents and a big cut/hole in it.... future Blower? ps, can anyone tell me which terminal the purple wire goes to on the starter solenoid (drivers side or pass side) and the wire off the back of the alt. where does it go and how is it routed (factory)

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Ok! Got the dizzy in today went in really easy (heard stories of people trying to get it lined up for hours!)
Primed oil pump with screwdriver lookin thing got it up to 30psi coulda went more but didnt like to go fast with a drill lol...I dunno Then we bumped it over got engine almost at tdc and turned it back a few degrees via balancer, then turned oil pump so that it would line up with dizzy, dropped in dizzy pointed rotor button at #1 and tightned it down and ran plug wires, did the poor man separators but ran out of blue zip ties hope I can get more morrow... Hopefully I start it etc tomorow. I think imma buy a parts store tach also. (only because it matches my other guages..) where should I mount it?

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Sounds like good progress. Hope all goes well tomorrow. If you get a 3 3/8" tach (Sunpro or similar) you can mount it to the column and it's about at the same spot the factory tach is. That's about the best place for a tach IMHO for these trucks...

Re: "Rice Rocket'
yeah I want one that matches my current guages and something i can get at parts store
ok, i could have started my motor today but i was alone and scared I have to set timing to 34* total, now what about 'initial'? And does everything have to be perfect for break in (carb) etc?. I think imma ge the tach if i have $ left over to buy extra parts.. we will see

Re: "Rice Rocket'
10-12 is generally a good start for the initial timing. Set that with the vacuum line disconnected from the distributor and plugged (a golf tee works great)
Those sunpro super tach II's go for around 50 bucks at auto zone/advance. Might find one on craigslist or ebay cheaper...

Re: "Rice Rocket'

So initial timing is line plugged, then how do you do the 22nd timing (34*)? ps i have an adj. timing light

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Yeah Im excited just REALLY nervous, I riched the carb up (500) a tad, and loosed the valves a tad,(rather too rich and loose than lean and tight).
Im having someone I know that knows more than me and my gf's dad help me later this week, other than that i'll work on it after school.. Still gotta do: Brakelines, prop vavle ones and the one that runs along the front k member drivers side inner fender rtv diptsick make sure my ps hoses are ran right shifter bushings (NEED TO ORDER) fix my brakes that are hanging... fill trans up (how much oil goes in 3spd man.) maybe a prop. vavle get running/timed clutch linkage

heres the dilema on the exhaust manifold..what should I do...the matching one for 6772 trucks is cracked, so my 80's smog crap is broken and leaks (i assume where a smog thing hooked up to it)
what do i do (minus buying new ex. manifold)
