OK now everything that needs to be white is white! A couple of new pictures! It also has plexi windows in the rear doors now.

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab
Just curious, did you finish all the welds(bodywork) or is the paint for protection?
Not a slam on how it looks, because it looks great! Just wondering if you really got it done that fast?

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab
The white is just an epoxy base coat for rust protection. I still have hammer/dolly work, bondo, high-build primer, blocking etc. The list goes on and on.

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab
It handles exactly like a 1996 GMC 1500 X-cab with a Beltech lowering kit would! In 3rd it loves to cruise at 55-60 mph and in OD it loves to do 75 mph. The only noticeable difference from the International body is wind noise. I doubt they even bothered with testing for this back at the IH factory in the 60's and they sure as heck didn't think anyone would do 75mph. So I get a lot of noise around the front doors and over the roof. It's not exactly an aerodynamic shape! And the door and side window seals are all old and shot.

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab
I'm doing a road trip to Oregon and back in about 2 weeks. I'll be checking highway mileage during the 1300+ miles. I'm hoping for the high teens but yeah for sure it will be better than 8 mpg.

It looks awesome! Do you plan on using the stock grille or just make your own?

I don't like the stock IH grilles of that era so I will be doing something different.

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab
I've been thinking about gauges for the dash. Here is a pic of where I'm at. A 5" speedo in the middle and a 3-3/8 on either side. One a tach and the other a 4 in 1. So far so good. Autometer makes just what I want. But then I start to get into the details and it all blows up on me.
My first issue is I don't want an 8k or 10k tach. I would like a 6k or even a 4k tach because my cruiser is never gonna see north of about 3k rpm. My second issue is I HATE friggin 2-digit tachometers. I want a 1-digit tach so that it is butt-simple for my little brain to look down at the dash and not confuse my speed with my engine rpm. Wanting a 6k rpm tach rules out Autometer. But the brands that do offer a 6k tach (like VDO) don't have the 4 in 1's. And apparently I am weird in my quest for a single digit tach because again not many vendors make these and those that do - don't seem to have the 4 in 1 or they don't have the larger sizes. Does anybody have any suggestions? |

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab
Gas milage results:
2 days of commuting to work and running errands. Then hop on the LA freeway system for morning rush hour. Up over the Tejon pass and North to Fresno. 374 miles on 21.7 gallons = 17.3 MPG. Fresno to Redding. 65 to 70+ MPH depending on road construction. 345 miles on 18 gallons = 19.2 MPG. Not bad for a vortec with over 200k on it! |

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab
Back in SoCal after the Oregon vacation. The return leg of the trip was a consistent 18+ mpg.
I picked up some different wheels on the trip. My first set were 17x8 Cobra SVT's and these are still OEM Mustang wheels. But they are 17x7 which is working out better as far as back spacing. I also think the Cragar style look goes better with the vintage of truck. |

Those look good on there, I like it!
I'm thinking you need a second color thrown in there somewhere...
