Once you get all the parts together and running, you'll need to find a person that knows how to tune it. For the motor, that will be fairly easy, for the A6 transmission not so much, it's harder to tune than the motor...

Just sayin, (read my 68 SC motor swap)

The VHX gauges work great with these motors. Would recommend you get the Bim 01-2 OBDII module. I will allow you to display tranny temp, IAT, gear pattern, and a host of other things. You can have who ever builds your harness to pull the data wire so you don't have to connect it to your OBDII port.

Thanks for the info and advice Rob. It's very much appreciated! Especially since this is my first LS swap, and I know very little about them. Particularly when it comes to tuning.

I'll go ahead with the stock motor as-is, for now. I was on the fence, but after your statement, I'm completely on solid ground.

I had no idea the trans would be so hard to tune. Glad you pointed that out though.

I'll look into the BIM 01-2. I've read up on it before and liked the abilities it has, but didn't want to plug it into the port and lose the gauges when I'm plugging in a reader or something.

I have a friend close by who recently did a Gen V 5.3 L83 and he did his own wiring with the help of another member. He said I could do it myself, so I think I'll try it. Any idea where I can find the wiring pinout for this setup? Maybe some pointers and an idea of what wire you're referring to for the data wire?

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions, but I'll start with your 68 thread. Followed it since late 2012, but I could definitely use a refresher.

I got notice this morning that the engine and transmission made it to a Houston facility. Hopefully that means it will be here today! *fingers crossed*

When you get it tuned they can delete afm/dod from ecm so it will stay in 8cyl mode at all times.

This engine doesn't have AFM/DOD. Only VVT, which I plan to keep.

Thanks guys, I'll contact Brendan to see what he can do. I have an E78 ECM though, and I'm seeing that they are only used in 2016 models, so I'm not sure yet if anyone has the capability of tuning them. May be waiting a while for it to be done.

I do have some bad news to go along with it. FedEx Freight shipped the drivetrain and wouldn't you know it... DAMAGE!!!

The harness is pinched (at least one severed wire), intake is broken/cracked, 2 coils are broken, and plug wires. Several harness plugs are broken, including one for the ecm (the blue J1 plug), all 4 O2 sensors are damaged and they mangled the dipstick/fill tubes... not that I was planning on using them, but dam!

I have contacted the seller and they are going to put in a claim and refund me the cost of the damage. Hopefully FedEx will cover legitimate costs and not just what they think it's worth. Although, I can't expect the seller to eat the cost of shipping damage, I hope they all make this good.

The seller is trying to find a value for the damaged parts so I can get a partial refund for the damaged cost. They are also looking for a harness to just replace the one I have. Hopefully they have better luck than I do. Called the local Chevy dealership and talked to the parts department with the VIN and was told they had two different part numbers, but couldn't get a price. Neither of those part numbers matched up with what my harness has on it.

I would just replace it, but Speartech is one of the only places I can find that does wiring for the 6L90 transmission with the engine harness. And I can't tell without calling them first if they would even do it for this new of a computer. Regardless, their harness is $950 without any add ons..... that's a bit too rich for my blood.

I emailed Brendan at LT1swap.com and he replied and told me he has no info for the E78 ECM, and does not do any programming on them either. Looks like that's a dead end for me. Hopefully GM didn't do a lot of changing on their wire colors from one ECM to the other. I think I'll see if I can trace the wires and start my own pinout. We'll see if I can do it. I'm not an electrical engineer, or even a fan of wiring, so this is going to be a BIG challenge.

If anyone knows another company that makes swap harnesses, let me know. I'll look them up and see if they can provide me with a new harness for this swap.

So a little update...

Speartech and PSI both told me they do not support the E78 ECM. PSI said they suggest buying their harness and an E38 ECM to work with their harness. BP never got back to me, nor did Howell.

I shall be trying to practice thinning out my junk harness before I get the replacement, so I know what needs to be kept and what can to go.

I did get confirmation from the seller that they have already acquired all the broken parts and will be shipping them to me, except the harness. They have put in a special order with GM to have a harness pulled from the assembly line. No idea how they have that kind of pull, but that will be awesome! Hopefully it works out. No ETA on that yet though.

I will be painting the crank pulley and all the accessories semi-gloss black. The crank pulley has already started to rust a bit, so it needed painting anyway. Don't mind the overspray.
