Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”

Insulation is now mostly complete. The attics get blown in insulation later this week now that I've got all the ceilings on the second floor and the garage boarded. I ended up buying a product for the garage ceilings and shared walls between the house and garage called Sonopan. It is a sound deadening material that I've heard good things about. Guess I'll see how it works for myself now. Hopefully I can work in there without bothering the wife and kids too much. This was a bit of a problem in the old house.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”

Looking good! I looked at your picture of the electrical service box outside. Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like its just has a meter in there. Especially if its tagged where only the power company can access it. Our code down here now requires a main breaker outside. Just means more for us to install and added cost to the homeowner.

Looks like your moving along nicely. Did you claim the third stall for your pickup yet?? Better make space for the toolboxes as well! Looks like you will have some room for them in the double stall

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”

Things are progressing nicely with the house. I have finished installing all three overhead doors now and am starting to get some siding up! We also have the basement concrete floor all done now as well. Hoping the weather plays nice so I can get a decent amount of it done this year. At least there is still a ton of work to do inside as well so if the weather doesn't cooperate, I can keep making progress regardless.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”

Still working away on the house. I got a pretty good amount of the siding up before the weather took a turn for the worst. Now that it's crazy cold outside, I have shifted to inside work. I have the second floor drywall up and I am currently working on taping and filling all the joints. Not too many pictures of this process as it is entirely boring to take pictures of. Hoping to have the second floor in primer before the new year!

Looking good! You doing the floor tile yourself? I just did one of my small bathrooms - should have worn knee pads. In your bathroom with the double sink, what are the electrical boxes for above the sinks? It looks like there are two above each sink. Vanity lights and lit mirrors?

Thanks! I am doing the tile myself. First time doing more than a single tile replacement. I had knee pads and my knee were still horribly sore for a couple days. Those boxes are for heated mirrors so then don't fog up during a shower.

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”

Oh gotcha. That makes sense. Thats a pretty neat idea. Yea - I have one more bathroom floor to tile. I will have to get some knee pads for that. The one I just did, I bought too dark of grout. I assumed it would dry a little lighter - i was wrong. Ended up using my multi tool with a carbide blade to remove it all - uffda that was painful. Luckily I have small bathrooms.

Are you keeping up with your schedule on everything? Still on time for your move in date?

Yikes, that doesn't sound sound fun. Picking a grout colour is difficult for sure.

I think I'm still on track. It will probably be tight but I should have some time off of work in the spring so that will help out

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”

I have been picking away at my drywall on the main floor and I can say without a doubt that I cannot wait to be past this stage. The sanding is just awful! Hoping to have everything in the last coat of primer by the weekend and then I can move on to something much more fun...flooring! At least you can see your progress day to day and no sanding! Gotta say I prefer sanding my truck. When you sand bondo, the dust is USUALLY not falling directly into your eyes

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”

Mudding a house seems like a never ending process. Its one of those tasks that alot of people just hire that part out. Pretty cool that you are doing it.
Are you laying down any texture before primer? When are you painting color??

I am not putting any texture down on any of it. Typically we do the ceilings here but it can be very difficult to patch if there is ever any sort of a damaged spot so I opted for a ton of extra work to go with smooth finish on everything. It has been the most exhausting portion of the whole build for me so far.

I'm hoping to be putting colour on the walls starting Monday evening.

Oh boy, that does sound exhausting. Gotta triple check the walls and ceilings with a spot light to make sure you got all the pinholes out. A little detective work haha.

Lets see some color!

Looking good! Did you use semi-gloss on the ceiling? Id imagine you sprayed instead of only rolling? I bet you had fun cutting in all the walls lol

The ceilings got egg shell and the walls are pearl. Cutting in was actually one of the easiest processes involving the walls, although that's probably because my dad has been painting houses for over 30 years now and I did alot of work with him over the last 20 or so years

Re: My 1970 GMC “Project Splice”

Thats awesome! Alot of people i talk to strongly dislike painting themselves. I enjoy it. I just got to remember not to have too much coffee before using the brush lol. Ran into that last weekend - luckily it I made it work with a not so steady hand keep posting pictures as you go along! Its pretty cool to see it come together.
