Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I replaced the front brake hoses Sunday and the rear drum cylinders on Saturday. Just a tip: LMC brake hoses are great on length but are not the correct size to fit through the cutouts on the frame brackets of a '71. It took me about an hour of grinding to get them to fit 'OK'.

I know it shouldn't have took so lone butI couldn't find my tester and bought a new one yesterday and just got checking everything tonite. My son and his new wife is about to drive me nuts. Not including my wife. Hair pulling time.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
A couple of days ago we set up a quick electrolysis tub to remove the rust on bumper brackets and other parts.
Here is a comparison of before and after This set-up worked pretty well, but had to see how we could make it better, so tonight we built a bigger setup. Went from a 3 gallon tub to a 35 gallon tank. Best part is that there is no cost. The barrel was a freebie from work, and the 1" bar for anodes my buddy snatched from his job. The rest is just spare parts lying around.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well first I put my new holley carb on, then I dropped my oil pan to replace my rear main, when all of a sudden when I took the pan off I discovered one of my main bearing cap bolts just hangin' out in the bottom of the pan.
So now I get to buy new ones... yay haha, my day was somewhat productive.

Put in a pair of seatbelts... then realized I don't like wearing a seatbelt.
Meh, maybe a passenger will put em to use.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Long story short; For an extra, I bought the dash set up from a seller on EBay and it came like this.....I sent him a message. But he didn't write back.
I wanted to use the nacelle. But I was going to paint it. What I really wanted, though, was the rest of the dash parts. So, I stripped the dash and put the guts in my old plastic nacelle...which I previously screwed up to get it off (see the area around the choke hole). I bought a different dash that I'm running now... But, on this one (the gloss black one with the cut up choke area), I'm going to put a 2-1/16" electric clock in the boo-boo, and then have a full extra dash ....Why? I don't know. It's a disease. Now, off to find a 2 1/16" black-faced electric clock..........

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
i had a nice ride today, got to check out a hole bunch of new parts.
first stop was a car wash. tested: dash cluster with all factory gauges, i have a working speedometer, fuel gauge, temp gauge and oil pressure. no more slippery converter, 3800 stall gone, 2200 in AND a trans that shifts by it's self now. 4:88 gear ratio gone, 3:73 in. i restored a GM 14 bolt for the rear and a GM 10 bolt for the front and did a swap out. i have music, loud music! the new intake works real well, no vacuum leaks at carb, engine runs like a champ. new 36" Super Swampers and new 10" wide shinny rims, looks awesome. the brakes work well, that's a first sence i bought it!!! all new almost everything tested. i put in all new brake lines along with everything else. I can turn! steering works much better, this winter i put the steering shocks on the tie rod, put the front shocks on the front axle. the previous owner had them backwards. the front shocks are longer than the steering shocks, they bottomed out not allowing the tie rod to move all the way. it has a 8" lift kit with with all Roncho shocks and duel steering stabilizer kit. a good day, come on summer! |

Removed the ashtray and glovebox door to ship to New York for pinstriping and air brush artwork. Also treated the truck to a new glove box liner.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well, for the first time sense last October, it was over 60 degrees in South east Michigan today and I took full advantage of it.
Rolled the 72 out of the storage unit and worked on some wiring issues. The PO hade two headlight relays, one for low beam and one for high. I was not sure why they were there so I removed them and wired the lights back up like original an everything works fine. Do these relays make a difference? I am not sure there purpose but no they are not factory. I also got rid of the aftermarket coolant recovery jug that someone had to have. I don't have a problem with a little coolant spiting out if need be. I am wondering if I have the correct PS pump for a short style water pump or if there is any difference other than the pulleys. I am going to put the alternator back on the drivers side and put a short water pump back on like it is suppose to have. Can anyone tell from the pic if the PS pump is correct? I also cleaned up the new AM radio and admired the gate for the first time outside. Overall, it was a good day of fun working on the old 72. Off to El Paso tomorrow for the week for work. I will be scouting for parts. |

Far as the relays go, they say it makes the lights brighter and steadier. I'll be wiring mine up with relays whenever I get close to that stage of my build.
