Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Power washed our fence today, its mostly 8ft x 6ft vinyl panels and a small section of 6ft x 6ft vinyl panels. 608 ft total counting road side and yard side. I do it twice a year. This time of year I just power wash, in the spring I spray with cleaner and use a scrub brush before I hit it with the power washer.

Spring cleaning sounds like a lot of work.
I've just started pounding in 34 T-posts for a 200' snow fence I put around a row of shrubs in the front yard to protect them from deer. Then in the spring, I take it all out again... Plan is to do this for a couple more years, until they get big enough to survive winter browsing. The first 3 years, the shrubs would grow about 3', but the deer chewed them down to nearly nothing every winter, so they had to start over in the spring. I've done this fence for 2 years now and the the shrubs are getting about 5' tall 4' wide. A buck did come by a couple nights ago and trash one side of 1 shrub, signalling "his" territory. I sprayed them all with a really nasty repellent the next day, signalling they were "MY" territory...

Doing some old photo scanning. Forgot about this 1990 camping trip with my buddy. 20 something miles into the Nightingale Mtns. Cold the first night!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Cool! Tumbleweeds stuck in the barbed wire. In y2k, we camped in the mountains outside Phoenix, at about 4k ft. Tres Sierras Campground? Wife had been looking at the weather report for Phoenix, but the mountains were considerably colder. We could see condensation from our breath in the morning, and I had gotten up during the night and put my jeans back on. Drove down to Nogales the next day and got some wool blankets in Mexico. Visited the OK Corral in Tombstone at some point. About all I remember from almost 26 years ago.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Power went out about 9 PM so I plugged my wifi into my 12V to 120V inverter, found a box of Cheese-It's in the garage and I'm making coffee while watching Voyager on the Pluto TV app on my phone
Things can always be worse.

ETA: Power came back on at about 3:30 AM and battery reserve only dropped around 10%, apparently a modem and router doesn't draw that much power and I even charged up the phone while watching Voyager episodes.
Amazing!

Truck was still involved . Annual Halloween neighborhood party kids do a parade with the fire dept trucks . Then have a little party at the park then they trick or treat.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Ran a cleaning detergent pill through the clothes washer, on the 4 hour cleaning cycle. Next washing machine I buy will NOT be a front loader. Saving money on water is meaningless when the clothes come out smelling worse than when they went in. Plus, a 4 hour cleaning cycle? Yeah, there's some real money savings. I have to do this frequently. I can walk by the washer and smell the stink.

Yeah, that’s frustrating. We bought a front loader “once” too. Smh

Never had one, but have heard folks, like you, complain about that issue. So far my 30 yr old Kenmore top loader is still kicking.

It helps to keep the smell under control of you don't let damp clothes sit in the washing machine too long before transferring them to the dryer. Also, leave the washing machine door open when not in use so it can dry out.

This. The smell comes from moisture that just sits and sits. Before I lost all my assets to my eX, our front loader was fine as long as it was allowed to dry up.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

This one has a filter. (Maytag) You can drain it and take the filter out to remove any hair or other debris. There is never any debris in that filter. The water that drains off stinks to high heaven. The filter sits in the lowest part of the system, and would take days to dry out. There is probably about a pint in that reservoir. I'm going to lay a drain line to outside the garage and put in a valve so that that filter can be drained after the washer is used. I immediately remove my clothes after the washer stops, also. Always.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I have noticed a faint smell in our washer, top loader, in the last month or so after sitting unused for about a week. That washer may be 15 to 18 yrs old. Kenmore I believe. Our clothes smell fine though.
I wonder if running a few gallons of HOT water and bleach in it and letting it sit for an hour or so might take care of that smell.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

We have a stackable washer/dryer and it sits in a sort of large closet out of sight. When its not in use I always leave the lid open on the washer. Id like to think it helps letting it evaporate and breath. No stinky issues and we have had it a long time.

Been a heavy drinker since childhood and looking back I'm thinking that was probably a bad idea.
Had a couple friends die from that stuff, not from the drinking but from stopping cold turkey.
I've noticed a profound increase in anxiety and depression recently and nailed it down to a lifetime of drinking.
Always had a fantasy of being on a yacht in the middle of the ocean at some wild party with lots of wonderful people and loud music.
That never happened, what I did get was some jail time, lost jobs, and all the misery that seems to go hand-in-hand with using that drug too much.
Oh well, we do not regret the past but I see no reason to do the same things expecting different results, that would be crazy!

So that recent outage convinced me that I needed to improve my outage preparation a bit.

Got a better propane stove and awhile back my truck alternator died under warranty so I put a one-wire on the truck and put the two-wire replacment on the lawnmower/generator/battery/inverter gizmo.

Is there a technique for getting a fat candle to not just burn down the center and hide the flame while eventually smothering the wick flame with excessive wax?

And I split more firewood for the stove because it doesn't make sense to make coffee under candlelight while you freeze to death.

I forgot about the clothes in the washer for several days and when I remembered them the blue jeans had mold on them.
Just washed them again and all was well.
These are the candles I was complaining about so I ordered some thinner ones.
Just trying to get a little bit more prepared for some possible future power outages in the dead of winter.
Got the heater ready though.

I think they call it a poor man's 12-volt generator. Could be used to run some emergency lights for a short time. Just my guess.

Yea that's what it is.
When I first moved here I didn't have power, but I had a new lawnmower and no lawn.

I wanted to play on my computer and got cable hooked up but it was going to be a while before power was installed so I came up this temporary idea in the meantime that worked so well I decided to keep it around for emergencies.

I wasn't here when the power permits were finally approved and the power people showed up but a friend who lives down the street said they kept looking at my overhead cable and were probably puzzled because I didn't even have power yet.

.

I think the trick with the candle is simply make the flame bigger...more wick exposed = larger flame = more melt/burn of the wax.
