Re: My long term 57 project

Let's add another item to my growing list of updates!

Looking at some fabric, this is from a '63 Impala, I think it will go well with the '61 Impala speaker!

I have no reason why I didn't cover that one spot on the floor, other than I figured it didn't need it since its a raised section.

I have also been trying to figure where to put this:
I got one also I am going to try to put it in my seat back like it was in the rear seat.

Re: My long term 57 project

Well I said I was moving the muffler swap to the top of my list, so yesterday I got an early start and made it happen!

It was pretty straight forward swapping them out. I had mounted the 40s using 3 bolt flanges so I did the same with the Venoms. The Venoms are 1in longer so I trimmed the outlet before Mig welding the flanges and bolting them up!

And yes they sound AWESOME! It really barks when you fire it up and the idle sounds much more pronounced, it's a little "raspy" so I may put an H pipe in later. Accelerating from a stop sounds great through the gears with a very nice deep tone. Funny thing is, at about 55 they go silent! You only hear the wind noise with the windows down.

What I really like is when sitting still and you jump on the throttle from about 2500 to 4500 they really come alive!! I like them much better that the 40s and will highly recommend them to you guys!

I think I might have this video thing figured out.

Here are links to 2 videos, one with the Flowmasters and the new Black Widow Exhaust Venoms.

Sounds pretty wicked, JJ.

You say they quiet down at highway cruising speed? If not I doubt I could live with them long term but they DO sound bad ass. Danny likey!

The new ones do sound more aggressive at idle and it is interesting how that aggressiveness diminishes as the rpm's come up. Sounds good!

Hey JJ, did you bump up that cam in your ZZ? Could be the Venoms, but sounds a bit thumpier. Can't wait to light off my ZZ383 for the first time - perhaps this winter!

Cheers, Jim

Thanks Jim, it still has the stock cam but the Venoms really made a difference!

Re: My long term 57 project

Ok, I've gotta ask: This "ZZ383" is it a crate GM engine? Why or whose "ZZ" designation is it? What's the stated HP and Torque figures?

Re: My long term 57 project

Hey Dan, the "ZZ" is a GM designation for their high performance crate motors. The ZZ383 stroker is a SBC rated at 450/450.

Cheers, Jim

Dan, mine is the ZZ4 that I got from the local Rick Hendrick Chevrolet. Its rated at 355hp/405tq, has great power!

Re: My long term 57 project

Thanks JJ. I was looking at crate engines on Summit's site last night and all-in-all I was fairly surprised how reasonably priced they are.

My little 283/350 combo ran fine but I know it has a weak cylinder and I've always been told it costs more to have a 283 machined and rebuilt than it does to just replace it with a base 350 crate motor. Of course once I started looking I realized for "only" X more I can step up from the base motor to something with a little more umph! Lol

Slippery slopes!

There is a bit of a learning curve but well worth it
