Thanks Palf Thanks Pirate After we got the rail changed we decided to modify the drivers side of the frame to make a new style of wheelchair lift in the pick up.Doing the modifications now will slow down the reassembly but it's easier with the body off. To start off we removed the exhaust, trailing arms and the crossmember. Stay tuned next week for more updates

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Today we got started on the new trailing arm crossmember. To make more space we are moving the crossmember back 9 inches so we chopped that amount out of the trailing arms then welded them back together. Then we remounted to the rear axle

Clever Clever Clever.
Amazing how necessity is the mother of invention. As always, great to see your updates. And of course the doggy assistant. They make a difference too.

Thanks Joe The next instalment is coming up. Today we used the plasma cutter to split one side of a 2X2. Then we slid it over the bottom of the drivers side frame rail and tacked it in place.

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Thanks Lower
Today we finished the new trailing arm crossmember and welded and bolted it in place. Then we made the inside rail of the box we are making and then set it in place.

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Better to be over built than under built.
Well I don't want my butt dragging on the ground I really do like to cut things up. After a whole bunch of welding we have finally got to the point of cutting the original frame out. Here.s a couple of pictures of where we are now

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
Thanks guys. I'm glad you're following along on the slight detour on the '67. Hopefully we'll get back to the Twisted Little Sister fairly soon.
We boxed the original frame forward of the cut out section and welded the boxing plates to the new frame. We also had to reroute the exhaust. Here it's just tacked together. We should have the welding done soon before the weather gets too cool

I take it you won't be boxing both sides then?

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
No, the boxing only extends about 12" ahead and behind the section we cut out of the drivers side frame rail.
We finished most of the welding so we pushed the frame back inside out of the cold weather. Then we carefully lowered the cab and box down on the frame

That was some impressive frame fabrication!
Dale, is that a combination tonneau cover and tailgate? Very cool look. |

Re: My suburban's Twisted Little Sister
That last chassis photo really shows the extent to which you have to modify your life to get from A to Z with a modicum of coolness.
That's some serious editing of the original design just to fit it around you. Amazed as always Dale.

Today we installed the rad saddle and both front fenders so we could check that we had solved our panel fitment issues. Good news, things are looking good.
