Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

I just did a "spray can rebuild" on the 250 in my '66 shortbed. All stock except for the HEI. I do have a Offy/Holley 390 combo on the shelf to go on in the near future.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

I bought my Clifford Research long tube headers back in '78, when they were under $90 bucks. Can't get 'em for that now. Mine have lasted thru 2 engines, but I've had them re-flanged to 3/8" and -- after #5 tube got bashed in off-roading -- that tube was resectioned. They ran 25 years on a 1977 build and then were hot tanked and bead-blasted for a 2005 rebuild. Don't know what I'd run now, if I had to build up another 292, but Clifford's are not in the budget anymore.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

So I finally got the Offy/Holley 390 combo up and running a few weeks ago. I used a cable throttle assembly from an '88-up Chevy truck. After some carb repair and tuning, it runs pretty well, and gets around the same mileage that I was getting with the original setup, 14-15 MPG. That's with the stock 3 speed, 3.73 rear, and 28" tall tires. There is a noticeable power increase as well. I'm running it with a stock exhaust manifold for now, but Langdon headers are what I have planned for the future.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

Long read thru 35 pages but lots of neat motors. I am also starting on a new 292 for my 65 pickup. Just pulling the shortblock apart now to check it out. Cylinder head work was done in the summer time. Lump ports, new springs and the larger valves and a little porting. The machinist was very impressed with the flow numbers this head flowed as high as the V8 Vortec heads do. Now to read a couple more chapters in Leo's book.

Nice eye candy, TJ. Not green or orange like all the rest, but it's your engine in your truck.
Where's the fuel pump? I see a block-off plate where a mech pump goes, and a steel fuel line coming from over the transmission hump.
Looks like you have plumbed the in/out of the Clifford intake carb heat by bypassing the bypass hose elbow.
Is that a 3-Bbl'd Demon carb?
Who's Shorty headers?
Strange things.

Fuel pump is mounted on the frame next to the rear mount fuel tank. Thermostat housing I have does not have a bypass anymore.
4 barrel 625 cfm demon. Am considering a 3 barrel conversion though but would need a bigger carb I believe. Probably a 750.
Clifford shorty headers.

Wish I could have this one back for my C10. Built it for my no options 67 Chevelle 300 years ago. Lump port head with split exhaust, HEI and lumpy cam.
