Re: 75 Dually build
That sounds like fun...NOT. I know it is a ton of work, but the results can be very worth it in the end...
Hope to see your work at LST. I hope to have Henry there...

Re: 75 Dually build
That sounds like a great plan Karl! Body work teaches patience... And it looks like I need to learn lots of it, which is why I got a crew cab dually... What was I thinking!!!

Re: 75 Dually build
Getting back into the groove tonight. I started out with just a couple small items. Got all the drip rails off and then cleaned them up and painted them to make them more presentable. I then sanded down the roof where the drip rails were mounted.
I have also been working slowly around the entire truck on the gaps. I worked on the hood tonight. I've gotten it fairly close now and will get it as close as I can before I shoot the paint. I know they threw these bodies together super fast. You can tell that little care was taken on certain areas... Of course if it was all perfect I would have nothing to talk about now would I!!! I still have to smooth out in between the doors where the roof is mounted, and the at the top of the A pillars. That will have to wait until after Thanksgiving. I hope over the break I can get a coat or two of primer on the roof. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!! Hope I have lots to report on in my next post. |

Re: 75 Dually build
Just a quick note. I have been working on the truck, but nothing really to report right now. Just doing some body work on the drivers door and getting that cleaned up. With Thanksgiving and all the traveling we did took a lot of time away, but I'm really big about family and spending time with them. If the weather would stop being around the temp of the last ice age I would appreciate it! Supposed to warm up a bit over the weekend so I should be able to get some actual work done.

What I have been mainly working on is a light surround for our kitchen light. This is one of my wife's Christmas gifts. My wife hates the fluorescent light in our kitchen. She likes the light output but the fixture is ugly! She asked for me to build a surround a while ago, and I have kept that in the back of my mind since. So what you are looking at is an Indian pueblo that wraps around at one end and has a western scene going along it's length. That moon at the end will have the tan coyote howling at it. What you see in sharpie is going to be cut out with a plasma cutter and have light shining through the slits. The coyote is just and inch tall, but he is pretty cool. I am doing everything out of 18 gauge cold rolled. I have cut doors and windows into the houses. I will cut some holes in behind them to let light through, and it will show light coming out the windows and the doors. Everything will be painted. The pueblo buildings will be shades of tan, I have 4 different colors for them. I will alternate the colors to make it look cool. I have a light blue for the color of the sky, mat green for the earth, and some tans to mix in some desert colors. I have not done a design on the other side yet. I'm thinking about maybe doing a scene with some buffalo or something along those lines. I will keep the western look to it no matter what I come up with. Let me know what you guys think! |

Re: 75 Dually build
I think that is a totally awesome surround! I want to do something like that in our house if I ever find the time. Please show the final pics. That is rad!

Re: 75 Dually build
Just some quick updates on the light surround. Sorry I know this is not truck related, but I have to get these items off the check list so I can get back on the truck. I only have 73 days left until LST, and that clock does not ever slow down...
I have also enclosed a pic of a wine bottle holder I just made for my oldest brother. I call the piece "Chasing time". My brother road races, and is a huge Corvette fan, having raced one for several years. The yellow car is making his pass on the two older racers. I think he will get a kick out of it. The tubing that is holding the wine bottle is the scrap from my 4 link. I thought it was a perfect use for that tubing! |

Re: 75 Dually build
Since we have been dealing with these artic blasts I have been stuck inside for the most part. So I decided to make good use of my time. The Hot Wheel is no where near done, it needs a lot of finishing work, but it is something I have been wanting to do for quite some time. Tons of fun!

Our Christmas was excellent. Santa did not need to bring me anything, I just wanted to spend a day with the family, eating, going to Church, and just enjoying the day. Got my wish for sure! Here is the lamp with the cover now on. Just hope I never have a bulb go out! |

Re: 75 Dually build
OK, OK, I have been back on the truck for the past two evenings. Still doing bodywork on the drivers side. Probably a couple more days to get everything on that side finished up. I will take some progress pics tomorrow and show you what I have been doing. I have a couple of holes to fill where the old trim was on the rear of the cab on both sides. Once I get those cleaned up I can then shoot my first coat of primer on the roof. Yeah! Some progress!!
Stay tuned! |

Re: 75 Dually build
The light turned out great. I really like it now that I can see the light coming through it. Glad you are back on the truck. I hope to get back on mine some day soon. I have a couple more hours of body work on the rockers and the body work on my cab will be done for now. I have to put a half shaft in my son's car this week, then maybe I can get back on my stuff.

Re: 75 Dually build
Sand, sand, sand, sand, repeat.... Have I mentioned before how much I like to sand... Let me tell ya! Found a couple of low spots, body filler is still drying in this shot. Should be able to have those quickly knocked out tomorrow after work. Lots more to do, but making progress!
Stay tuned! |

Re: 75 Dually build
So here is one of the paint colors I am considering. It is a 2003 Saab lemon-lime. I've shot this color before on the roof on my 56 Buick. It changes a lot depending on the light, so it makes for an interesting color. Check it out and let me know what you think.
