Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
Warn front receiver is on. It's beefy and looks great. Tucked richt up to the bottom of the bumper. I'm not sure I like the spare tire mount or not. It DOES fit, with about 1/2" between the tire and front of the hood. Light bar will be useless when in this configuration.
As a side note, the warn instructions say to remove the bumper and brackets together. No way. The bolts were way too short to work with the factory town hooks that I have, and required more spacer than the instructions show on two of the bolts. All in all it's a stout piece, and if I have trouble with this spare it won't be because of the hitch.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
A wheel spacer would give me more clearance, but just make an even longer moment arm on this poor wimpy spare tire carrier. I couldn't find a weaight rating so I'm just going to assume a 10-ply 35" tire on a steel wheel is good to go.

You all can probably tell by this last photo that it's not summer anymore! Stinks that I need a headlight to work outside at 10 pm...

Nice work! Why's the ground look wet? Is it that elusive rain stuff we don't see much anymore?

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
It’s that time of year where we are scrambling around here to finish work projects, finish home projects, finish truck projects because the white stuff is coming. Grabbed a mini ex and helped my father in law do some rock work around his place. They live up in the hills so getting a loaded equipment trailer then a loaded dump trailer up there wasn’t boring.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
I had to put the hubs in to get the load of gravel up the driveway and figured what the heck I’ll put it in low to make it easier on the truck. No go. Power to the front axle only. Tcase works as advertised besides this one issue. Do I have a shift rod out of adjustment or something more sinister? I dug a hell of a home in their driveway with my front left tire...
And we did not beat the snow...

definitely sounds like a shift rod misadjustment

I know that the shafts for a twin stick usually have some of the detents machined or ground out. Front axle only is a strange one for sure. I would like to hear what you find. The truck looks awesome as usual and its great to see her putting in the work as intended!

I’ll have to pick your brain a little j-rod, when I get to a stopping point. Butts and elbows right now trying to get all the crap put away and plow truck ready for snow. Oh and it’s snowing! Thanks man, talk to you shortly.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
Great truck Marcus, what brand/application are your side steps for? I've been searching for some for mine. I apologize in advance if you already if you already posted this. I'm only to your 454 rebuild section, saw you were online and thought I'd ask.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
Appreciate it. No worries at all. N-Fab makes the steps. They say for a 2500HD but I forgive them since they actually make some steps for our trucks. Also are available for short and long bed regular cabs and sunurbans I think.

Thanks, found them. I tried searching that brand once even. Looks like I can save almost $50 ordering them through summit though.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
Thanks Chris. I’ll keep you posted on the tcase. Honestly it’s pretty far down on the priority list right now. The one car (wife’s) garage is full of truck parts, plow truck has no fuel tanks, crew cab has no topper, camper has no cover and it’s dipping below zero already!
Speaking of cold, here’s a reminder of why I prefer gas: gelled fuel happens to someone I know almost every year.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
Kind of a fun mission since this same 9,000 lbs super duty died a few years ago when I had the tired tbi 350, and smaller tires, and I could not get it up the 12% grade on packed snow to the top where it lives.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
Challenge accepted. Heavy throttle at first with lots of pedaling when the tires started spinning and we made it. Should have had the go-pro going it was loud and fast and impressive.

Credit goes to the siping done to the ST Maxx tires and additional horses.

Does your truck have any kind of lockers? I'm worried about my truck behaving in the snow with the detroit in the back.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler
Nice you're getting more work out of it! Yeah, you have to be pro active when owning a diesel for sure. Luckily we haven't stayed cold here yet. Did you have any time to look into your tcase issue yet? The siping definitely makes a big difference in the snow for sure. We switched over to tires with siping on our fleet at work since they all have the traction control you can't disable. Best thing we've done yet.
