Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
When I got my truck it had a steel bed floor in it. I replaced it with an original style wood floor and put the cross members back like they were before, with the different one in the wrong location. See it in the pic. The odd one should be in the second from rear location. Just wanted to mention this since the question of the location of the odd cross member has come up before.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Worked on my sons truck yesterday. Cleaned the gas tank and cleared the fuel line. Replaced wheel studs and lug nuts. Installed the new battery tray. We removed the radiator to put in the new one but they sent us the wrong one. Hoping to get the correct one by this Saturday.
Still looking for a drivers side door and a couple 6 lug 15in wheels. |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Yesterday I changed the seat in my truck to a 73-87 style, new carpet on the floor and wired in a new stereo. That seat sure gives me more legroom.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Hung all the front tin to help with bolt inventory. Here is a picture of the tin and a bag of bolts that have lost their label. I keep assembly groups together and spent half an hour trying to figure out what these are for; one set of 5 5/16 bolt s and nuts, 8 5/16 nut with washer in two lengths, and 3 each 5/16 shoulder and hex bolts. Front clip, hood, doors and bed bolts are accounted for. All chassis and drive train is installed. Any ideas????

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Just finished installing a lower bearing in my stock column to use with on my Camaro clip, I bought 2 qty-R12zz bearings for $6 delivered off EBay, Actually only needed 1(+1 spare)
I cut the stock column and shaft off almost flush with the gear box I then cut the tapered part of the column off so I have about 1 1/2" of shaft extended the bearing is .030 larger than the ID of the column so I cut 4 slits in the end of the column and bent each tab of the column out slightly to accept the bearing. I then welded a 7/8" washer on the end of the column and welded up the slits and ground smooth. Just had to weld slow not to overheat the bearing. Simple & smooth $3 solution , No need for a $70-$80 column bearing saver. +++++++++My prayers are with you Russell.++++++++++++ Last edited by 1958Warrior; 09-05-2015 at 10:52 PM. |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Well it wasn't today, it was a few days ago! I purchased the plate to relocate the water pump on a 62 235 sitting in a 49 3100. The plate allows you to run the earlier water pump on the later 235 so the fan will actually be almost center on the radiator.
I followed the direction that came with the plate, however I couldn't get it to stop leaking with out the gaskets. So I ended up using both gaskets with sealer and so far so good. Was also able to use the stock lower radiator hose. That's nice and clean now. Yes the directions recommend just using sealer no gaskets! No Bueno |

Looking great, Frank! I'm jealous, mine's a pile of parts right now.
No pics because they'd be boring but I stripped my driver's door of EVERYTHING inside and out to drop it off at the sandblaster this week. I'll do the passenger side tomorrow. Painter wants to fit them to the cab and set up the gaps. So far, I'm very pleased with this body man.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Been working on this most of the summer instead of driving Clarance J. Finally got the holes in firewall filled in and got the paint on today. Learned a few things about painting that are going to be helpful in the future. Just love working on this old truck. Putting the motor stuff back on tommorrow. One more thing to check off the list. Only 999 more things to go. Yahoo!
