Re: post up your camping pics
like i said, had some weird things happen. while i was off dicking around on my quad, my wife had a visitor at our campsite. a floatplane came down and landed right in front of her and my son. she could'nt take any pictures, cause i had the camera, but she did have her old sony handycam and made a vid of him taking off and leaving. as her sony is at least 7 yrs old (vids on there i had never seen, from 7 yrs ago...lol) we have to figure out how to get it on the computer first, then i can show it
why did he land? was going around the backcountry warning everyone to clear out because of a forest fire. with only one way in and one way out, we took his advice and headed out. started getting smoky, puts a little fire (bad pun...) in your rear when you start smelling it too clearing outta there |

Re: post up your camping pics
and one last weird thing...
just out of Hope BC we were tooling down the old no. 1 highway, (50 mph) when we were startled by a train horn. the world famous Rocky Mountaineer train pulled right up beside us and started tooting his horn and waving at us (usually it's the other way around...lol) i slowed down a little bit so the kid could get us some pics, did ok on the engines, but that was it, none of the coach pics turned out good. as we were working our way up and down the train, prob 300 people were gawking at us and taking pictures... |

Re: post up your camping pics
hey...nice pair MTCK!
is that a toyhauler beside the camper? c'mon now, don't be a bogart, share some of that beautiful AlaSka countryside with us... this was our t. trailer at Boya lake (couple miles from the yukon border) on july 1 at 11:30-ish at nite.... only being up there for a couple weeks, it was a hard (and weird!) thing to try adjust too... |

Re: post up your camping pics
even if i could get the truck past the logs and removed bridge, dont think the truck would get down whats left of the road...
came around a corner and a whole herd of road chickens was in the way. they tried to flap out of the way, one hit the front of my quad, and another one glanced off my helmet clipped this guy with my helmet. he gave me a "WTH" just happened look.... |

Re: post up your camping pics
getting harder to find the trail. also cant seem to find the trail to Kokwaskey Falls, where the river leaves Kokwaskey lake. doesnt look like too many people make it up this way anymore...everything is overgrown and reverting back to nature.

Re: post up your camping pics
not sure of this creek name that runs into Kwoiek
turns out this is as far as even the quad goes that's the road/trail over there, the lighter colored green bush but Kwoiek creek is in the way, and the bridge is long gone.... |

Re: post up your camping pics
yup, i think so...
time to hike, and i mean hike, really had to bushwack to get to John George lake, this is what i'm going thru... been not drinking much lately cause i'm on the quit smoking bandwagon, and nothing goes better with a brew than a smoke....but my buddy gave me a couple Russian beer (?!?) and i brought them with me. figure i'm safe drinking them here when the nearest store is a couple hrs away... have to say they taste like s**t (mostly) i'll stick to my bud thanks... all the way from St Petersburg to way out in the middle of nowhere bc...lol they were my little celebration for getting to John George finally. been over 30 yrs since i was here |

Re: post up your camping pics
the mountains around John George
that little black thing in the creek where it leaves the lake was a beaVER swimming around and slapping his tail had my ruskie beer and a sandwich, did'nt hang around too long, pretty sure a bear was watching me, keeping me company. could here something in the bush, never saw anything, but there was bear skat everywhere... perfect, clouds lifted for one last nice parting shot... |

Re: post up your camping pics
with the bridge gone, it will be a real bushwack to get to Stukolait lake, or Kha and Klept. maybe one day load up the 303 and hike the rest of the way in, will not be easy...
on my way back tried to get to Antimony lake and Skihist mountain, one of the tallest around here (almost 10 000 feet) who ever pays attention to these... few miles in....hmmmm, no road or trail left. guess it's foot only now too.... well, no bears stole my truck... heading out |

Re: post up your camping pics
Awesome as usual Dawg! I would love to join you on a trek one day. Get the old 1 tons and campers rolling! This was the rig we took on the off grid fishing trip in northern Sask. No clue why it posted sideways.

Re: post up your camping pics
couple more leaving Kwoiek. kinda disappointed all the roads and trails are gone. it's a long valley with big mountains that requires more than a day on foot. prob wont be back this way for a bit, it's not like how i remembered it....
was quite a chore getting to John George, just for a sandwich, but the beauty and serenity of it was well worth the effort-3rd times a charm.... even on the way home the canyon was empty.... |

Re: post up your camping pics
going on 6 mos MTCK!
quit mar 18, tough, but i'm done wasting 20 bucks a day on them.... i also learned a couple things today. one, i'm old. not the go-anywhere young buck anymore, just a 50 yr old roofer...hiked close to 30 miles today, with almost 4 of them strait up and down, and man oh man, i'm really feeling it right now. also learned a bear banger can work pretty good too... our province has been burning big time this yr. the smoke from wildfires has blanketed the valley again, can barely see the mountains around my place so i decided to get out of the smoke today, and headed up the Coquihalla. seems to be some smoke at the bottom of the Coke too.. you never know what you'll run into on the Coke, like this truck-less load of 2x4's going up in flames lots of construction going on the Coke right now. fixing the bridge at Dry Gulch |
