There were some things on the old cab that bugged me and there was a guy up here that needed a finished cab for his build so off it went. My new cab is going to get a big going over later this month.

The solution to keeping the temps below 200, and its so easy that it doesn't require any hood modifications and you'll wonder why you didn't think of it yourself; is to only drive it during the winter time! I'm sure up there in Canada land, that shouldn't be a problem! |

Too much salt and gravel chips on the roads up here --- It's not as bad as the roads on Ice Road Truckers, but they can get pretty slippery & messy! Plus the salt corrodes everything it gets on after a while.

Got the intake 'lip' welding done....just added some steel bar so the lip wouldn't just be a sharp tin metal edge.
New welder so I'm still getting the settings adjusted, otherwise my welds would be a bit better (my welding probably never will be perfect)!

You do some amazing work and I have to say that I loved your truck complete and I know it will look killer when you get it back together again. It is awesome that you have an understanding wife...mine hated my hobby......Good luck on redoing your truck and keep us updated.

Re: "The Ayatollah of Rusty Hole'a 1987 SWB 6.0 4L80E
wow! sweet!
So if I can follow what you are doing, then you are doing this: - made holes in the original hood - then layed over another sort of hood? - this second hood is open at the rear near windshield(cowl like) - and it has intake lip on the front (sort of ram air?)? - and this air flow from the front to the back under the top hood should cause a venturi sucking out hot air from under the bottom hood? looking forward to final product man! nice!

Re: "The Ayatollah of Rusty Hole'a 1987 SWB 6.0 4L80E
Stitching on the extension to the cowl so it goes slightly past the underneath hood and slightly over the wiper cowl.
I am welding a steel rod to the back edge of the cowl so it isn't so sharp of an edge and looks more finished. I also lowered the cowl so it doesn't sit so high.....was 4" high in the center at the back of it at first, now it is about 2" high and looks more reasonable for my truck.

Re: "The Ayatollah of Rusty Hole'a 1987 SWB 6.0 4L80E
Hood is pretty much block sanded. Will prime it and then re-block it later when the other doors and fenders are ready to be done at the same time.
Took a long time to finish, hope it looks ok in the end!! Here's my bone stock 455 I found a few weeks ago ready for rebuild for my '68 Firebird....work never ends!

Block sanded my other hood down, just in case I decide to go back with it.
Started welding up the new cab. Lots less rust on this one and it is going pretty fast, so that's good. I'm going to do something different on this firewall from the last time, just haven't decided what exactly for sure as of yet.

Went through this post page by page from page 1. When I hit page 15 and saw it all together and finished I was pretty disheartened because it was over. Next thing I know you're rippin it all apart again! Just goes to show that projects are never exactly "finished"
Keep up the great work, lookin forward to the next "completion"!
