Re: What did you do to your truck today??
Yea, I feel bad about it.
Sounds like a good plan.

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
Thunderstorms prevented me changing oil last night. But now it is cooled off and less humid.
This Suburban runs pretty cool. I guess when it's 90* out that hot oil is 90* cooler than actual temp (somehow and not sure how I dreamed that one up) Today's the day! Someone shoot me if I don't change it today

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
Lighting problems with the 99. No turn signals, no hazards, no brake lights, intermittent reverse lights. I've been smacking the taillights occasionally to make them work, but it wasn't this bad. Passenger side was poor bulb contact, drivers side was the same and also poor plug contacts. I bent the tabs out for the bulbs, and removed the pins from the plug to bend them to make tighter contact with the tabs. The main problem that started me doing this, bad flasher. I changed it first which made the fronts work again, then had to mess with the back.

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
I just replaced a tail light circuit board on my 91 due to intermittent turn sig failure. After cleaning the plug in and bulb contacts I started mashing and moving the connector plug around and made it work or not. It turned out to be the circuit board itself was bad. With the turn sig on I mashed on the circuit panel until I found the bad spot. I didn't see any way to get to it inside so I just replaced it. Less than $20. Another import..

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
They're supposedly problematic, I've messed with a few. Haven't had any problems with the 93 ones though (knock on wood).

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
I had the problem with no signals, brake lights, 4-ways and it was a blown fuse. I looked at my right rear light assembly and noticed a bulb had been getting hot (and burned out). I had put new lights on a year or so before and on that side either I didn't get the seal for the circuit board right or it shrank up. Water was getting in

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
I didn't realize the 99 lighting system was different than my 93. I was going to swap the hazard flasher with the turn signal flasher but it only has the one. It's LED compatible though if I want to do that now. I want to make the upper taillight bulb a brake/blinker light also as a little custom touch since it's only used as a parking lamp but is still double filament.

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
Troubleshooting a no spark issue. After 2 1/2 years body swap I'm ready to fire it up. It isn't starting, but the engine turns over. I checked the fuel pump, that works. Put a neon bulb on one spark plug wire and nothing. Checked under the distributor cap and found this mess...

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
Yeah, that one is a little bit rougher inside than my 91 was and I ended up replacing the whole distributor just to start fresh.

Looks like some sort of moisture issue

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
The ignition coil ohmed out good, the Pickup coil tested bad. I put in a new distributor and the ’88 k2500 came to life. The truck was in a paint/body shop for awhile. They liked to remove paint with a disk and didn’t cover anything up. I suspect the magnet attracted the metal dust and with some humidity the rusting was accelerated. Ran fine when parked…

Sign of the times. Not a bad idea. I think I'll get one in case I need to leave mine parked somewhere

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
A locking cap is a good idea. But there are some thieves actually drilling holes in the bottom of the fuel tanks to get your gas. I guess there is no stopping a sufficiently experienced thief.

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
Yep. The skid plate offers decent deterrence but I suppose an idiot with a long drill bit could get toward the top of the tank. Back in NM it seemed to be vehicles with plastic gas tanks that were more common targets but I don’t have any stats to back that up.

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
So I went back and checked, this thread is how I remember what I did to the trucks and when. I got just over four months out of that starter I just put on. It clicked several times this morning before making a crunch sound and then stuck cranking without engaging the flywheel. I had to disconnect the battery. So I dragged the truck away from the trailer with the van so I could use the 99 for work today. I exchanged the starter earlier and put it on.

I guess I should report I replaced the washer pump last weekend, even though I started a thread about the genuine part designed for another vehicle. At least the connectors were the same. I'll see about getting a new piece of neoprene hose so I can route that properly

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
Today I noticed my tailpipe is about six inches off the ground, so tomorrow I'm bringing a coat hanger to work. The rear hanger snapped, I think there's also another broken one I never bothered to fix. Maybe I'll weld them this weekend.

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
My washer pump stopped working. Time to look into the cause of that. Never seems like just a simple part replacement

You just changed that right? I guess it's the switch?
I took a picture of my exhaust before I coat hangered it. Yes, two broken hangers.

Re: What did you do to your truck today??
Rubber bungees work great. Rubber mount!!
The washer pump switch would be in the multi-function switch I just replaced
