Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

On most SPIDS and on mine also it lists "door edge guards". Can someone post a picture of what they looked like please. Were they a full molding that sandwiched on the entire door lip? Mine are long gone if that is what they were. Thanks

B93 Door Edge Guards were offered as both a production option and as accessory parts. They were included as part of the Promo Package bundled options so you should see them on any YG6-8 truck.

They are not terribly attractive, presenting a verticle chrome cut perpendicular to the flowing bodylines and molding. Plus they don't stay on well and will typically damage the paint along the edge of the door.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I'm supposed to have the green plaid seat.
Somewhere down the road someone installed this gold velour, and bright red vinyl bench seat.
Strange color combination.

I keep the doors closed as it's quite embarrassing.
Pretty sure it came out of an old clown car.

I like it. Don't see many white. The moldings are just the opposite of mine. Mine has upper and no lower. This has lower and no upper....

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Here is an original Highlander that has been worked over pretty good. I wasn't 100% sure at first but even on the fuzzy spid pic you can see where it says "parchment trim"

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

A factory Highlander will never say "Parchment" in the trim description. Generally its "Custom Trim Combination" or the insert plaid color like "Blue Highlander", "Green Plaid" or "Avocado Plaid".

Sorry this one isn't, IMHO, from what I can read of that SPID (which is very little). Even the seller states its a 626 Parchment Trim in his added SPID breakout.

Overall a nice looking Custom Deluxe/10. If the repaint is metallic, as stated, its the wrong color. Original paint was 505 non-metallic Dark Green and White in the Conventional Two-Tone pattern.

You are right, "Parchment Trim " doesn't make it a Highlander. I guess I had a brain fart there.

Here's a Highlander for sale in east Texas (not mine). No picture of the SPID to confirm but in one of the photos you can see the interior with the plaid seat cover intack.

Would this be a Highlander? Found it last weekend, asked if it was for sale and if we could look at it. I am still learning what it takes to make a Highlander.

The lady I spoke with said to make an offer, it is her father in laws truck. It was pretty rough. What I thought was strange was that it was a C-20 but only had a 2bbl carburetor.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Thanks for posting your find!
Clearly it is a Custom Deluxe/20 Highlander (618) and a Promo Package "C" (YG8) as well. So it has all the bundled goodies! Orange Plaid (618) and solid Hugger Orange exterior are big pluses to me without the distraction of any two-tone white.

The listed engine (LS9) was a four bbl 350. So if it has a two bbl you are looking at an intake swap if not an engine change. The block stamped engine assembly code is a good place to start trying to ID the engine.
More pictures are certainly welcome!! :-)

As always, don't let a "find" tempt you to accept paper promises. Make sure it has a title you can transfer.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

It is a highlander. Want to see exterior. Then we can help you with what it might be worth. I'm guessing as Tim said it was more than likely a engine swap. Most people wouldn't swap from a four barrel to a two, but my father was one that did by using the two barrel intake and the holly economiser two barrel carb. He said his ran better with the two barrel and got around 18 miles per gallon.

The reason I stopped to look at this truck was for parts for my 71 Cheyenne. The bed floor, rockers, doors, fenders and above the windshield were rusted bad. It just so happens I had read this thread explaining what a Highlander was. Couldn't believe I found this one sitting out in a very rural part of Missouri. I recently got into these trucks and I am learning a lot. Thank you for the information in this thread. I only took a few other pictures of the truck and none of the outside.

THAT is a nice highlander. Pkg C truck, C20 Custom Camper with camper wiring, Aux Tank, etc etc. And it's a conventional 2-tone, my personal favorite combo (white top only). Real nice truck. if the price is right, it's definitely worth restoring. The orange seat is so faded I was expecting to see gray plaid on the SPID! Ha. More pics if possible - this is a very nice one. Here's some pics for motivation (would look a lot like the 2nd pic, but without the white in the middle, and would have the NL2 aux tank spout, and some real truck mirrors!):
(EDIT: OOPS! It's a solid red-orange, not a conv two-tone - corrected 2nd pic). If you don't snatch this thing up, someone should.

It was built as an orange plaid. But like many it is heavily faded.
