Wow!!! These engines look good when you remove years of service! I'm surprised you're not using HEI on this one.... especially with the turbo!

Means nothing ~ the 848 head is the last and best 235 head and it fits both 235 & 261 .

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Found the block numbers: 3769716 So this is a l6 235. If it had the 7 at the end it would of been a 261.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

Just realized the thriftmaster 235 in my 61 apache does not have a oil filter. Oil change every 1000 miles?

Post Routine Service

No ;

Just HOT change the oil every 3,000 miles and you'll be fine .

HOT not just warm it up 20 minutes idling ~ lay out your tools and oil pan then go to breakfast or summat across town ~ as soon as you get home drop the oil plug and let 'er rip ~ hot oil drains all the crud with it , cool / cold oil doesn't .

Exclamation Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!

The importance of HOT oil changes cannot be over estimated ~

This is why Dealer service is so bad : they never get the car anywhere near warm , they let them sit for hours before touching them .

Most of my vehicles are cast offs and Junkyard projects etc , they often some with the engine full of old waxy paraffin based oil sludge but after a few months the engines are clean as a whistle inside because i use only modern multi - viscosity detergent oils and I religiously change them , always blistering hot .

Synthetics are incredibly detergent and will clean out all the sludge in two or three oil changes .

Looks like he's got the Holley, possibly P/N R8007 in 390 CFM, a 4160 type. Maybe even a 2V Holley.
Offenhauser, Clifford and Mercruiser all have those finned valve covers. Hard to read at that angle.
Hard to see his intake either.
Is that a Turbo Wastegate?
Air cleaner? IDK.

That valve cover is an offenhouser 235 , 261 valve cover. Looks to have dual 4 barrels mounted on a clifford or offenhouser intake....also has headers...looks like clifford headers as well judging by how the exhaust is routed....just like mine. It has dual carbs....looking real close...it looks to be 4 barrels...probably holley 390's...Both offenhouser and clifford make a dual carb manifold...Tom Langdon and Clifford make headers.

That's an Offenhauser 235, 261 valve cover....and the engine looks to be a 292...judging by the distance between the head and water pump...but the 261 also had a fair distance as well...

do the 235/261 covers fit a 292? also what do you do with the breather system if you run a cover like this? Ive got both a PCV valve and a breather that runs to the air cleaner from the side of the valve cover....
thx all for the input

Tom Langdon sells a Valve Cover Adapter: 235/261-type to 250/292-type. You bolt it onto the block with 7 bolts, then bolt down the 4-bolt Valve Cover. Taller rig, thus more headroom for roller rockers.
The old L6 stock valve cover is a different animal from the 'Late' L6 valve cover.
I have no idea how to run PCV on a dual carb set up.

Just sold this one in a 64 shortbed. 292 bored 30 over with Offenhouser intake, 390cfm Holley, split manifolds and full duel exhaust and HEI ignition. Oh yeah, it also had power steering, Ac, and power brakes too!
