My '59 Apache

cfisher, I don't know how to set up the ring and pinion, but I do know how to take the thing apart, clean it up and make it look nice. Dave Chapman (The Hollister road company) will be setting that part up this Friday if all goes well. He's been Superman for his help and expertise in electrical necessities(relays, etc)!

So, I hope all goes well on the rebuilding of my rear axle~ I bought this back cover off of ebay~ it's looks really neat! Should look great peaking out from the underneath! I just put a couple bolts on to hold it, so I could step back and marvel at it!
Maybe next week I'll have this old truck back on the ground again!

The rear axle looks fab with the new cover!
Could I ask you a favour? Please post a couple of pics of your "mule" for me so I can copy it...
What do you use for lifting, wire? Or hydralics?

Now, ferrofil, I have two of "My little mules", First off, these are made from Hoyer lifts or patient lifts that were used in hospitals, nursing homes, etc. With the correct cradle, they can be used to lift and move a patient up to 350-400lbs. As a physical therapist assistant, these were great to use, but a harrowing experience for many patients. ok~ I found mine in Craigslist, but I don't know what you would have there of where to look for a used hoyer lift.
I did have to replace some casters on the hydraulic one. I tend to abuse them in my garage, and the floor doesn't help. Keep in mind these were used on hospital floors, so better casters for our purposes are in order when these wear out.
New hoyer lifts can be well over a 1000 for electric/hydraulic with remote operation, we don't need all the bells and whistles, just something to get the job done!

This first lift is a manual unit of which I paid 75.oo. It has a screw top to make the boom go up and down. I like it best. The screw unit is quite heavy and makes for a great counterbalance. The boom on this one I made extendable. ON this one I removed the original boom and fabricated my own.


This one is hydraulic, just like our engine cranes we use. The base wheels can be made to go outward to increase the base of support. However, this one doesn't have much of a counterbalance. These were made to keep a patient in a safe zone when lifted. I need to make the counterbalance and work on the boom.

Just what the doctor prescribeb! :-)
I think I can easely build my own, now that I see how yours are built.
I'll use a bottle-jack for lifting, some casters, larger diameter( my floor is far from smooth) and have the boom retractable and also the suportwheels in front should be retractable, the you dont have to fiddle with counterweights! So stays light and nimble!

I really like the housing cover on the differential, I would get one too but with the way mine sits and the mustang gas tank it wouldn't be seen

Well, we put alot of things on our trucks that no one will ever see or appreciate. An example may be just a hint of seeing disc brakes through the wheels, or better yet, how much money is sunk in an engine that no one will ever see? So if just a hint of my backing plate will show, that will be a tease, no? it'd be like me wearing a long skirt one without a slit revealing nothing would be boring, whereas having a skirt with a slit would be a tease, well, that's my truck with the differential cover

I think you'll have the only 12 bolt that can twerk. That cover is huge

Don't mind me, I was just feeling a little naughty yes, that cover is really large, it's best to look at it dead on from the back of the truck, not from the side. Probably in kahoots with the the 90wt grease company so we'll use more 90wt!

Ive put steelbeams in the floor because its made of asfalt, so in this pic I use straps to get it straight and true for welding

Oh my~! I am so-o-o- jealous! You're life is going to become so much easier in the shop! Now you're really going to have to do something about that wall, clean it, paint it~ you have a first class working place going on and have worked hard to get it going~ and even maybe some banners like I did, Summit Racing, dress it up so your friends will be even more envious! and you have a neat little forklift! I am so proud for you! Now what is the cute little white car?
