Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Thanks for all the advice...
Pulled the carb off tonight. Pulled the top off to see the float. A bit of rust and dirt in the fuel bowl. Pulled off the float and removed the needle, it was blunt... I am thinking it is time for an overhaul.

This whole build is coming together awesome! I wish I could be here to see it finished! I'm shipping out to boot camp on the 3rd, but I will be excited to come home and see how it looks!

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Greetings all,
Well finally got the truck running again... Had the carb rebuilt, put it on, nothing... Got the wife to come out and roll it over for me while I looked at the spark, weak spark. Changed the ignition module, nothing... A couple of burps but nothing. Pulled the plugs and checked compression, all cylinders at or around the 150 mark... However, the plugs looked rather fouled. And my dad kept saying I should drop the oil... Well dropped the oil and it was very thinned out... He was right. Put new plugs in and it fired up. Dicked with the carb and timing. It runs fantastic now, it is very responsive. I am happy and motivated again. Tomorrow evening, I plan on getting the doors back together with the glass and new weatherstrip. Countdown to the spring is on now. I am ready to drive this rod. Thanks for all who keep watching my build.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Finally.........it runs! Sounds like this engine has been running rich for a while. These trucks came from the factory set up to run on the rich side for two reasons. When operating under loaded conditions it helped the engine run a bit cooler. Secondly, back then nobody gave a thought about fuel consumption. I re-jet the carbs on all the trucks I build, they all run way too rich when I get them. Take a look at the residue inside the exhaust after you drive it a few miles, if it's black it's running too rich.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
I finally got to do some work yesterday evening. Got the driver side glass and new weatherstrip in place.
Not to exciting of a update but a little progress. I am contemplating ordering a new interior (dash, door panels/handles, seat cover, trim pieces etc.) from LMC. Anyone have any insight to their interior parts?

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Ive heard bad things about them sending the wrong seat cover and colors a bunch. I had a local shop make mine for the same price and it was much nicer....Not sure how much they would charge to ship to Canada but here is their website http://www.ricksupholstery.com/

LMC has been good to me in the past. I was not happy with the fit of some bedrails I bought. They credited me the price of the rails, let me keep them and gave me a 100.00 gift card.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
I also have ordered lots of stuff from LMC and never had a problem. My only problem was all they had was black when I was looking at their dash panels, etc. for my truck.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Ordering from LMC is a gamble at best. Some of their parts are great, others are pure junk. If you can find another vendor youbetter off. Look in our review forum for feedback.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion
Got a bit of work done on the truck over the weekend. Got both doors weather stripped and windows/locks and handles on.
Got sick of tripping over the front bumper, so I decided to go at it. I had thought I made a deal on a chrome front bumper but the deal was reneged... I will go with the painted bumper for now. Here are some photos. Hope to get some color on it this week and have it mounted. Next I need to get the inner fenders stipped and painted. Slowly getting towards completion.

I know, I know... ha.
I really want chrome but cannot justify the price for a new bumper. International shipping is expensive...
