Fitted the new shoes to the frame to help decide what color the body ought to be.

4/5 drop

This is my umpteenth build on these body style trucks. By far the deepest but man I can't decide colors. I watch all the member trucks here and still no real decision on anything. Lots of great iron.... Too many choices.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Dreamed about replacing the fuel sending unit in my truck. And putting the
Z28 back together after paint. I am on the last leg of a two week trip. Get home tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Changed out the burnt up old dizzy (PO didn't put a resistor in after replacing burned up wiring) with the Skip White HEI , new 10 ga. power wire and some end connectors from the ign. unfused in the fuse block, .045 gapped AC Delco copper plugs, and some house brand 8mm plug wires. Didn't find TDC properly, heck, couldn't even find the timing marks, and probably messed up the firing order. Wouldn't fire up. That was yesterday.

Today pulled the HEI, found TDC, cleaned off the timing tab (darn that sucker doesn't have much of a viewing window), pointed HEI towards one, re-seated it, rerouted wiring in the right order, and vroom fired right up sputtering quite a bit. Rotated HEI till she was purring and tightened the bolt down. The timing mark was at about 2 degrees retarded when I did the #1 spark plug hole blow off trick with the remote starter but I couldn't get the engine to turn even after pulling all the plugs. I didn't try the socket, just grabbed pulleys and belts, nada.

Guess I need a timing light and see if I can find that tab in those close quarters after setting the idle and whatnot.

Is there any danger in running with the timing not set if she sounds like she's running smoothly? Or will she just drink a lot of gas like she used to anyway? I don't think I'm hearing any pinging, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for all the info on this sight, I couldn't a done it without y'all!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Nearly completed my front end suspension rebuild. Only thing left is front sway bar and bump stops.

This is Porterbuilt Stage 1 Basic Front, Wilwood 6 piston 14" front rotors, and 20x8.5" Showwheels Streeter Wheels all purchased from Travis at ProPerformance. Frame has been POR-15 by a brush. Motor goodies to come next.

I'm really happy with the way it looks.

I got tired of looking at my grill so I changed out the inner and outer, and repainted the bezels. Looks way better.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Received my brand-spankin'-new pink slip in the mail today. Except, DMV screwed up the VIN. They have it as "C3...." when it should be "CE....". Damn it. Gotta get it fixed now.

Why can't anything just be simple and straight forward?

You're in luck ~ this is a simple , easy to correct error , just take both the truck and the new pink slip back to your local DMV Field office and they'll look at it and send it off for correction .

A very typical " fat fingers " mistake ~ look at your key board to see why .

True. It should be an easy fix. But I do live in CA. Anyway, can't bring it to DMV. The truck is non-op right now. But atleast it'a running again after 30 years.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Pulled the steering box, tie rods, idler arm & mount, and pitman arm.

Never used a tie rod puller before... when those things finally "pop," they really let go!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got some small stuff from LMC to deliver to painter and Bro, Lee.

I've pretty much decided to go with the 67-70 bumper painted to match the truck,
and to move the turn/parking lights inside of the grill. (Here it is in primer with the "early" bumper P-Shopped)
So, I ordered "paintable" bolts.

Is the reason LMC sends paintable bolts with a bunch of writing on 'em because they are period "correct"?

For me, since I'm going to the trouble to paint the bumper, I might as well have the bolts clean, too. So, I went off to the grinder with one and
shot it with a little paint to check it out.

Small thing, for sure. But here I'll be. At the grinder/wire wheel for a while. After I'm done cleaning them up, I'll leave the rest of the bolts
"raw" for Lee.
