But on the bright side, SBC motors are the cheapest motors to build anywhere.. so you got that going for you.. Just sucks you have to do it all over.. this time you should upgrade to the LS7.. then you would only be replacing tires once a month

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally, my son and I were able to get the lower control arm shafts in. Took a bar clamp and a dead blow, but, there in!
Also got the lower ball joints in. Time to assemble the front suspension! I have to say that my 12 year old is a real go getter. I wouldn't have been able to get this far on the truck without him. He is learning to weld, paint and generally learning about how mechanics work. He asks a thousand good questions and you can actually see the understanding on his face. Sorry to go on so much, but, I am incredibly proud of him. Steven

For a long time I thought maybe it was a problem with the brand of carburetor (mine happens to be an Edelbrock 1405). The problem turns out to be that modern gasoline (within the last 10 years or so) evaporates at an alarming rate, leaving the float bowls empty. The electric pump will only be used to charge the system and fill the carb. It runs on a momentary switch that will shut off as soon as released. The engine can then be started and run normally on the mechanical pump. When the truck is driven daily the electric pump won’t be used at all. I didn’t want to convert to an electric pump alone as my experience with their reliability has been rather poor.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Thanks for sharing. My oldest son showed a lot of mechanical interest at that age. He grew up to be a great machinist. I recognized his apprenticeship was complete at about age 14, when I had him button up the bottom of my engines by himself. He was so dependable by then I realized there was no further reason to double check his work.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I not, I plan to install Nu Relics power windows and then install Dakota Digital remote system to it. That way I can raise or lower windows by remote and will just reach in and open the door. I also plan to install a emergency cable. Just in case. Marty

This is the rough center console waiting for my shifter to finish the top. Nexus 7 tablet mounts in the opening.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally finished up the new fuel system after days of working on minor problems the kept popping up. Ended up costing way more than expected, required much more back aching discomfort, and days of living with the stink of gasoline. But man the finished result was worth it!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Went to NAPA and paid for lower control arm U bolts.
They won't be here until Wed. I decided (after reading the thread on broke u bolts) not to reused the originals. I have replaced all the bolts but the rear end U bolts so I think I might get those as well. Steven
