While installing the distributor I could only after many attempts get it to drop in 180 out, so I started looking for the reason.
I then noticed the key on the bottom of the distributor shaft that mated to the oil pump was offset. I then searched the service manual and YouTube and discovered it was not only offset, but the keyways both the male key on the distributor and the female keyway on the oil pump actually had a slight taper to them so they only go one way.
It's very hard to see this taper with the naked eye but a caliper showed it to be true. Long story short I had to drop the oil pump (3 bolts) right behind the exhaust pipe in the third picture and re-clock the oil pump shaft 180. Distributor dropped in just like it sposed to was after that.

I'm glad these old motors were built to be easily repaired in the field!

That is a Cool Jeep.

The N-series F__D tractors with a front distributor has a similar design.
If a person puts it in wrong and tightens it down, it will damage or crack the housing.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Motivated myself to get up into that freezing garage and start tinkering with the bug after letting it sit for over 6 years, it needs brakes all the way around and a master cylinder installed.
I have all the parts the only thing lacking was motivation but I figured out that I could move my Wi-Fi up to the garage by just carrying it up from the cabin, no 100ft. HDMI cord needed.
Now I can watch TV on my phone while I'm freezing.
Actually it ain't that cold I'm just a cheapskate sissy.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Spent a few hours in the shop "cleaning up". When I was done I found I had the same amount of free room as before I started but a bunch of things were now holding down space in a different spot..

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Went to lend a hand at my daughter and son-in-laws new to them house over the weekend. 25-30 foot tall dead tree hanging over the driveway was my main target. Me and the SIL had it down, cut up, and loaded on my trailer in about 1.5 hours. No houses or cars were hit so it was a good morning. Little bit of creative roping got the big limbs directed and off so the main trunk was a breeze. It was hollow so they dodged a big bullet at some point in the future.

Worked on a KDX 200 project a bit on Sunday. Getting closer to a first ride.

Great that the Trees did not cause any property damage.

I have a Few I need to cut soon.

So they don't cost me money.

Well, it's not done with me yet. Been 5 months now. It's slowly clearing up. Thanks.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

My 8 year old son has gotten into model trains recently so we've been working on a small layout in our spare time. Gave me an excuse to get out my old trains and relive my childhood a bit too. Its pretty basic right now and its a bit overwhelming learning what has changed in the last 30-some years with controls. Its just a DC setup, not sure we'll jump to DCC unless he really wants to get serious but for now it's all for fun and helping him learn some electronics and train stuff too.

I have a number of dead Ash thanks to the stupid emerald borer beetle that need to come down. Cut any that would have gotten on the house last year before it was built so now it's just those that would get across the drive and a few other areas.
