Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL! Santa came early today, and dropped off the new Nittos. These are actually more than what I had hoped they would be. They are really exactly what I was wanting in a 40" tire. Loving the new Battle Born beadlocks also. I liked the looks of the Hummer 24 bolt wheels and tires, but just too heavy for my setup. Also, had to run the wheel spacers, did not like that.Very, very happy to have this tire and wheel combo now. I got a few pic's from the basement tonight! Once again MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone here and your loved ones all year long!Name: 100_1279.jpg

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Well, times are a changing here on my build. I got the new tires and wheels now. My new son in law insisted we mount one up on christmas day.Looks real good on the TK5! My youngest daughters man is really into helping with the build. We did a walkthrough in the pole barn yesterday. New plan is to take out what was fabbed up at Mayhem Garage and start over. Thinking of going back to the original rocker boxes, because I already have everything here to do it. I am going to do rock sliders though, to protect the rockers and etc. Ordered up a set of 58" ones from Trailgear last night. They are for Toyota's, but are a universal weld on slider. With my new son in law, my youngest daughters man, all my friends, and the will to get it done,it is on now!!This new rock slider setup is completly different from Mayhems design, but I think this is the way to go for my build.Wow, long post, but man am I stoked!!

Very cool idea. Good to have family in on the build to help out. Then they are invested in it as well.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Happy New Year!!Orderded up the TrailGear sliders, and consulted with my gurus today. Looks like I may have made a good move this time!My new idea is to run a exo tube from the front bumper, up around the front fender, outer wheelwell and tie into the rock sliders above the rockers in the front. Then in the rear, tie into the slider and go over the rear fender/outer wheelwell area, and connect to the custom rear bumper that matches the front. Never been a big fan of the exo cages, but this looks likes the way this is going to go now!

Just ordered up a set of replacement doors from WES! Have the weld in panels for the original doors, but going to go this way.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

The new doors for the TK5 arrived at work today! Very happy with the shipping. Boxed up, padding on all the sides, and banded to a pallet. Not one ding or scratch on em! Many thank's to WES at classic chevrolet truck parts! Everything I have bought from WES has been great, as is the service. Pic's don't really do em justice!Name: 100_1294.jpg

Got the new BAJA SS seats today. They are smaller than what I was running before, but I think they will work out perfect. Here's some pic's.Name: 100_1297.jpg

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

I am at a cross in the road. I have every available replacement panel for this K5. Rocker boxes, floor, etc. I cannot find anyone near me that has done a 1st Gen. If I could find anyone in Northern Michigan willing to take on this project, I would be able to trailer it there--now. Can send pic's if you are interested in helping me!

Is there anyone who works on any classics nearby?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Don’t lose hope. If you have a welder just jump in. It may not look profesional but if it gets it back together and drivable, that is the goal. Some of these guys have serious skills and I will never be on that level, but I did get mine back together and I had zero previous skill on body work and zero help except this forum.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Heres a couple pics of the tree removal and a couple of the fuel fill assy. The fill mounted is my original, and the one with the round flange is one I picked up from Sharpie. The round one wont fit right, so I combined my old one with the one from Sharpie to make a good setup. Also pic's of the rubber gaskets I have been trying to find. Happy 4th of July everybody!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Just wondering if you checked on getting any sheet metal or parts from gmc pauls as he is closer to michigan? I don't know if shipping would be cheaper or not? Just wondering? I am in same boat as you and will be starting a build sometime.
