Got the gauges mounted into the frame and have been wiring them up. Hope to have them mounted in the truck this week.

changed out the lifters and rocker arm locking nuts on the 292 today, need to figure out the low oil pressure issue now. :/

The original pump brand new when hot ran at 20-30 pounds..these engine do not require a lot of oil pressure. 40 pounds when cold is plenty...the original pumps are a low volume type...It isn't recommended to go to a high volume because camshafts have been know to break because of it. My 292 which is 48 years old internally and has 147k on it runs at 30 pounds cold and 15 pounds hot...plenty of pressure...If I was you, I would pull the pan..clean the pickup screen out and put a new stock pump in...they run as cheap at $30 bucks. And the ultimate oil for these is straight 30.

Got the truck in the shop today! Started swapping out my control arms. All hardware came apart easily with a little help from the torch. Much easier without the bed!



One step closer to hitting the road. Exhaust and driveshaft next.

thank you for the tip, upon further investigation i boiled it down to the wrong length dip stick, and when the PO had it rebuilt, the oil pickup tube wasn't set at the correct height from the oil pan's bottom. so when the dip stick indicated "full" i was 1.5 quarts low on oil. when i would stop hard, or be facing down a hill, the oil pressure would bump up. going up hills it'd sink like a rock. oil was sloshing in the pan. added bit more oil and BAM! 45 -50 lbs when running cold.(little high cuz of all the Lucas). truck runs FANTASTIC now. ah hah! love when things are a simple fix. once again thank you for the help T.J MCCAULEY

finally made so headway on the bench seat cover, a pull here and tug there and itall look nice. the bottom part is on tomorrows to-do list

Swapped out flasher switches today from the flarestart to the Roberk Co. Model 800 switch. Works much better than my flarestart.

made a jig to lift the cab on the frame with only one person and one to guild. of course i was sweat'n the whole time while it was free from its cradle, it held. yeah!!!!!!!

They're real 1954 Buick portholes (Ventiports). I added lights to them the glow dim when the parking or headlight circuit is on. The bright lights flash with the turn signals and 4 way flashers.

Not quite "done" but part of the process.


Tonight I am the proud (???) owner of £436.00's worth of 2 and 2-4 inch lowering joy for the truck.

Mate Martin has bought the same for his '65 Long Fleetside.

The original lowering was done with an Oxy-Acetelyne torch at some point, leaving the truck a bit, well a lot, wallowy. Redneck engineering at its best with the springs unevenly bunched together.

So in line with having it as a functional driver when it is done, I decided this was another item that needs doing correctly. So spent the money importing the parts.

Martin needed a full set for his truck too, so when we saw the lot on sale by Brothers, we contacted the Brothers in the USA and asked about combined shipping....... the difference was $110.00 on the parts.

Of course you cannot get away from Customs, but the barstewards charge their VAT on the US courier costs too, which I think is a bloody cheek.

Anyway, I am happy that I have nitrous filled shocks with nylon bushes.

The springs weigh a ton, and look very good.

Still need to decide if I should get the springs powder coated, or just give them a coat of gloss enamel, as they are going out of site and this is a driver truck.

There is a lot to be said for building two trucks in parallel. Loads of sharing of cock ups and spares, as well as helping each other out with bits.

On Sunday we have a marathon session planned with my truck and two of the motorbikes in my garage, as well as a petrol electricity generator and a Briggs and Stratton 190cc lawnmower that kicks back like a mule on its pull cord. Any ideas ??

I attempted to tighten the drain plug on the bottom of my differential using the 1/2 portion of my ratchet. It requires what looks to be 5/8 inch "male" type fitting. Hit two stores and couldn't find one. Funny how the smallest things can tie you up.
