The chain is for torque purposes. The truck is a factory powerglide trans and uses the factory stock rubber mounts. wihout the chain the engine will upon hard acceleration move enough to shift the trans into low gear. I place a chain on almost everything its a safety feature in case a rubber mount fails.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

Hi Guys,
Bad news: my '68 292 is acting like a 5 banger. I posted a full account on the Engine and Driveline forum, so as not to hijack this thread, but since all the L6 heavy hitters are here, I thought I'd post this note here, too.

EDIT: My Buddy and I took off the valve cover to explore and found a broken spring on the # 4 exhaust valve. An an identical valve spring was gotten from the machinist and replaced. Truck runs good now.

Mike Baril at Ravenswood paint and body sells them. He's known as MrHotRod6...he is one of the guys who wrote the Inliner's Power Manual. Great guy...keep an eye out on ebay..that's where he sells them..type in "292 inline 6 sidecovers." and if he is selling any they'll pop up..his account name is MrHotRod6. Those covers can also be made for a 194-230-250

I know this is an old post but wanted to add that my 65 GMC (which is Canadian) has a 250 and it was painted Chevrolet orange from the factory. It's the original engine to the truck as its been in the family since the late 70's.

I am keeping the 250 and modifying it but want the stock look (no chrome) so my question is will roller rockers fit under the stock valve cover or do I need a spacer?

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

You'll need some form of spacer. Believe me...those finned valve covers rock on these inlines....so ya might consider one. And they don't require a spacer. lol!

no they will not. But I don't know what your build / mods are to the motor . So You may not even really need roller rockers.

The engine is apart and ready for a full rebuild as soon as I finish the chassis.

The engine plan is:

060 over block
Prepped stock rods with forged pistons
Performance camshaft
Decked, port and polished head with 3 angle valve job and high flow lump ports
Stainless steel 1.75 roller rockers
Headers with dual exhaust
Triple side draft Webers

I'm planning on putting a T56 behind it as well.
