Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Then the best picture of all . Once I finished at Mercedes I had to go to VW at Battersea , I had to remove a set of controls , so there technician could do a small job on the car and when he had finished then reinstate them . So while I was waiting for him I asked if I could use the press . To press in my lower ball joints

So a good day , and all the wish bones are now fully built up ready to go back on the truck

[/QUOTE]

What a great post to read Martin, after us Sweating with the vice and G clamps on Saturday trying to press those buggers home......

These look awesome.

I may have to change mine to Silver as well now.

The contrast is perfect.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

I find that when Martin has been here all day, helping, or when I go help him all day at his place, that I sometimes am so wound up and grumpy that Nicola tells me not to burst a blood vessel.

Nicola found this today......

She said it was Grumpy Bear and excited Martin on way to USA.

He is always happy when stripping my truck, and I am invariably grumpy, stressed and traumatised as I have no bloody idea what I am doing.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well just a quick update this weekend, as I had to help my friend Stephen on Saturday morning then shopping followed by going over to Rian's house . So on Sunday morning it was down to the vets with Bow for his check up . Then we popped down the road from the vets to a bike jumble that was on . So home by lunch time to start working on the truck. Well one hour into sanding down the chassis I received a text from Rian showing me his rust in the cab . So after he came over to cut a piece of metal from my old bedside it was back to sanding and grinding the rust off the chassis .

When I had previously installed the 307 olds motor , I had to cut a small notch from the chassis rail to prevent the headers from hitting it .

So out with the cutting wheel to make a small part to fill in the missing section

All welded up and repaired

So most of the chassis is now sanded on the under side so I just need to flip it over and finish the top ready for paint .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well I decided to treat myself, to an early birthday present , as you know I got myself a Sandblaster a while back . Unfortunately my Snap-on compressor isn't up to the job being only a 2.5 hp and 50 Ltr tank . So after much internet searching I found this , which is more up to the job bearing in mind , I also have to paint the truck at some point .

My Sandblaster

And this is my new garage toy 3hp twin cylinder 14cfm with a 150 Ltr tank

Luckily my mum said she is giving my some cash for my 50th birthday towards it

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

This morning I had a good Bootfair, managed to find a few bits I needed and some I wanted.

Also managed to pick up a new, unused 3M respirator mask for Martin for sensibly little money. Perfect to accompany his new compressor when he is painting with volatile paints.......

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well as I said I got my new compressor , to go with the sand blaster and to update mine with a larger one . Last weekend Rian came over to help me get it into the garage.

Well all went well until I tried it . The problem I have is the supply to the garage is tripping out when it restarts. With only a short time till we fly out to Clems I will sort out the problem when we return from the states .

So this left me with a choice , carry on sanding down the chassis with a flap wheel or wait till I return from the states .

So on Saturday morning I got up early to go over to Rian's to help him lift of his bed and tip the cab up so he could get it painted . On getting there I realised it wasn't going to be a five minute job , he still had to remove the brake lines , hand brake cable and of course the wiring . So two hours later I was on my way home .

Me and Rian after pulling his truck further apart . For once I left with his truck apart and him looking happy . I think he has finally come to terms with the full strip down

So after a bit of running around with the other half , it was time to work on my Truck

I managed to get the chassis completely sanded down, this involved flipping it back over , luckily I managed to get Amanda's son Michael to give me a hand with the flipping it over, that way saving Rian a thirty mile round trip.

The chassis all sanded ready for the Por 15 rust remover then paint . Rian will come over next Saturday to help me .

Well on Sunday I had arranged to go on a bike ride with some of the guys from my bike club , this included Colin the welder who did Rian's exhaust last week and Stephen who helped me changed the Ka engine . Sometimes you just need to have a day off . This is because working on cars all week , then at weekends on the truck can just get to much

Living in Kent also known as the garden of England it had promised to be a good day with the weather on our side . So out came the Kawasaki ZRX 1100 . All I am going to say is the V Rod is better for crushing .

My toy of choice today

Once I returned home from playing in the garden . I got a message from Rian to go back over to his to help him put his bed in his garage and flip the cab back , and push his truck away . Next weekend chassis painting then it's got three weeks to fully harden .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

I may be over tomorrow after London, then we can get the acid etching done, get the chassis in the garden and pressure clean it, then dry and return to the carport.
Tuesday you can paint it, Wednesday I have my boss, so Thursday I will come over again to flip the chassis so you can do the other side.

That way the weekend is free for important stuff.
