Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Problem is you could send them back but the HI is still gone. Had a similar problem with an old boat, sent my parts to a high end plater and paid a lot of money to get them screwed up. finding replacements was like trying to find hens teeth. good luck on trying to get it straightened out

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
I sent em a email last night..I'll see what they say...the IH logo was reccessed into the base..I assume it was stamped or pressed...I can see the reverse image on the bottom...so I dont know if they filled it in or if the chrome filled in the void..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Well, that's not cool!
They had to have filled them? Doesn't the electric charge create a hair thin layer of each chemical? I would think all the different platings would have left the logo exposed? I mean, it somehow worked 50+ years ago and the logo showed.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
My thoughts exactly..i wouldnt think a thin layer of chrome would bury the logo..so I'm not sure what happened

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Well ,,,heres the reply I got...sounds like the logo isn't there anymore...
Hello Greg, I just spoke to the polishing manager. The polisher asked him about the stamp. "If I try to save the print the pitting on the pot metal around that area will stand out -vs- polishing them out and look clean" The manager told him to "make them look clean". I apologize for not asking you first and letting you make the decision. I could take this into consideration next time you send work and give you a discount price. Please let me know your thoughts.

I think the discount should apply now as I won't be using you again.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
That’s A bummer because it could have been done right. The pits could have been leaded. I don’t use a computer just my phone and can in large it as much is I want, the mirror you’re showing us does not appear to even have any pitting near the logo. It used to be everything was triple plated Copper, nickel, chrome With the exception of exhaust no copper. Now days they call triple plating by giving it to layers of nickel

That really suck about the mirrors. I can't imagine someone wanting to polish out the details. Especially without owner consent.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
It really makes no sense to me as to why they did it without asking...only option I have now is try to find some more bases if I want to keep the IH logo...I have a lead on some ...but I'm sure they wont come cheap

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
I would have the chrome place replate the new bases for free. I enforce that the logos are an important detail.

It's an important detail, but also the only reason he coughed up the coin for them iirc correctly. The singular detail. They owe him some mirrors honestly, but we know how that goes.

Yeah Dale...the logos were the only reason I bought these mirrors...and now its gone....theyve lost all their identity without it...
And John is right....we all know how this is gonna end up... Has anybody been keeping score on how many a screwups I've had on this truck?...haha

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
If you're going to chase down another set of mirrors, you could offer El Paso Plating these mirrors in exchange for a refund. Without the logos they're indistinguishable from repops. They should know this, or at least be willing to own the mistake.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
well the guy on the IH forum had 2 IH logo bases, but one was broke and the other is badly blistered..the chrome man says he can do it but it may show some blister around the logo..so were still searching for some bases...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
on to the next thing for now..i worked on the fan shroud today..i wanted to keep the factory shroud but use electric fan...so I needed to make a mounting plate to hold the fan inside the orig shroud..
I started by making a pattern with some chip board transferred that to some 1/8" alum, I added a 1" lip to the top side that I tipped in a vice and then smoothed out with a hammer on the steel table to make it conform to the top of the shroud.. 1st pic is shroud 2nd pic is plate in shroud last pics with fan where it goes worked out really well...I sprayed it with etching primer and some matte black and called it a day

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..
Awesome build. I love the "make what you need to make it work mentality". My skills have been getting better over the years, but a decent shop and the right tools always help. I hope when I retire from the military I can set up another decent shop to tinker once again. Keep up the good work.
